HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Something that a lot of people are misinformed about. We don't have a huge number of big money football boosters like similar programs. That was a cultural decision made all the way back in Woody's days. AD fundraising was based on tens of thousands of modest Buckeye Club donations because Woody didn't want a U Texas type of culture where several big cigars sit in their star chamber and run the program. It's never really changed because it never really needed to.

Barring an unusually large gift, total AD donations these days are about 6-7 percent of overall donations in a given year, and the AD just received its first ever 8 figure donation a couple of years ago while the university has received scores of (including a few 9 figure) huge donations.

Too bad we don’t have any gold diggers who are alumni to convince their rich geriatric husband to throw a large donation to the program

This is CPD we’re talking about. They have a permanent hard on for busting OSU players. They’ll drum up something
In fairness to them, they've always been asshole thugs to all OSU students. Imagine how they treated the group that I was with at an anti-apartheid demonstration at a Trustees' meeting. The cuffs were on so tight that I thought I would end up in the ER from the lack of circulation.

A point was brought up to me that makes it nearly impossible to fire Day prior to our playoff game.

It’d trigger a 30 day window prior to our playoff game that’d almost certainly create a scenario where some guys enter portal….

As agitating as it is, Day will finish this year out.

Calming down a bit it is unrealistic to expect him to be fired before the playoff. Lucky for him half the SEC crapped themselves multiple times as well and we will easily be in still. I think he should at least have to get to the final to potentially save his job though.

That really wouldn't matter. The portal opens on Dec.9 anyways. One week from tomorrow. Well before OSU would be playing a playoff game. If anybody wants to bail, they can do it then.

One very underrated thing that Ryan Day faced this year was 4 top-5 matchups (whether or not PSU/IU are actually those is not super relevant). How often did Tressel have to empty his bag of tricks this many times? 2006? And then he had the 2nd worst post season outing in OSU history (behind Clemson).

He also probably had to save something for Oregon next week, which would have been followed by 1-2 more top 5 matchups to win it all, bringing the grand total to 6-7. That's a crazy number of times you must be elite and diverse.

That's not to excuse the decision to ask Treveyon to play in a phone booth with the greatest DTs in CFB over the past 3 years, but it does shed light on being tight in certain spots.

Hire the next Jim Tressel to self scout and fix the things that are being overlooked.

Recruiting kickers
Learning how to flip the field in special teams. It's a weapon, not a failure. And if it is a failure, stop punting at the other team's 37.
Learning how to save your best for Michigan
Keeping Ohio OL home, in bulk
Getting blue collar LBs, not just pro bowl athletes that are projects at playing the position

(I think JL is fixing the last one, though that took too long)
What tricks did Day empty out at any point this year? Even against the garbage of the conference - Nebraska, Purdue, Northwestern - the offense never had a rhythm or flow to it.

Everyone is sold on Mike Vrabel as the next head coach, except Mike Vrabel. Matt Finkes has said on many of occasions the Vrabel is not interested in the coaching on the college level.

That is an easier question to answer when the team is doing well and the job is not open. Things can change quickly when circumstances shift...can you imagine how pissed off Vrabel was watching Saturday!? Who knows, maybe the imminent NIL/portal (well, hopefully imminent) structure could make for an easier sell.

I would offer BOB Day's job. I don't think anyone would argue against BOB's toughness. He looks like he would eat Moore for lunch and shit out his bones before dinnertime.
He will always be aces in my book for the way he shit on "the Paterno people" on his way out the door. That being said, he's in Boston for his son's medical care.

Does this include the likely incoming suspensions for the fracas after the game or does that give him a pass based on who got suspended?
Auerbach tweeting that it's a 100K fine by the B1G for both schools. I'm sure that there'll be a league or ncaa rule by next season about flag planting or any other on field celebrations by visiting teams after a game. I'm OK with that. Just nip it in the bud.
