HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

scUM was #3 and 10-1 going into that game. I think that’s a bad comparison
In both situations, OSU was dead in the water without serious help from the opposing QB.

If you want a comparison to an inexplicably bad Michigan game doing enough to beat OSU, perhaps you'd prefer remembering the 42-41 track meet with 6 loss Michigan, where OSU only won because Devin Gardner threw the game winning 2 pter to Tyvis Powell by mistake.

Michigan's scoring offense in the 4 previous games:

21 Iowa
9 NW in regulation
13 Nebraska
6 MSU

49 pts - 4 games before that
41 pts - vs one of many Urban teams that didn't feel like fielding a particular side of the ball all year

Problem is, Vrabes has said numerous times he won't come back to College ball, even for OSU. He hates recruiting and doesn't like the portal and NIL climate. Considering the job he has in Cleveland, there's a pretty good chance he'll be the next coach of the Browns if they fire Stefanski after the season.
Doug was saying Vrabel has said he'd come back for the OSU job. If that's true, sign me up.
Just sayin': You don't want a head coach that hates recruiting, doesn't like the NIL/ transfer climate, and really doesn't want to be a college coach any more. Ohio State needs a "long term fix", not a guy that would leave as soon another NFL job became available.

Bottom line is we won those games and we lost these ones. Day hadn’t lost to a bad team until now you can make that case but that team being a bad scUM team rocked by injuries as well makes it hard to justify.

Because the Michigan QB won it for them in 2016 & 2013.

There's no justification for losing this game. I'm not in that business.

My only point is Urban himself is not good enough for OSU fans. Not the version they enjoyed at OSU, and definitely not the broken one you'd get now (or the one they fired).

When you realize that, you'll realize how poor the odds are in replacing Day with someone better. This is nothing like firing Holtmann. The exact system is inches away from a NC.

The CURRENT team is in the top-3 odds for a NC, despite that performance. That's how close they are now.

Yeah for me it’s a short list…

1. Vrabel- who the beat thinks we can land if we offer it.

2. Freeman- he’s a buckeye, he’s young, and his teams do play hard. They’re used to playing a physical brand.

3. Cig- unpopular here it seems but he does win and what he did with Indiana is tremendous. His confidence a lone would shake this program awake vs the teams we need to be awake for.

Right and Tressel was only competitive on a national stage with Cooper's players. If we're looking at it the same way, as the talent and mentality of Cooper's players filtered out, they were replaced by Tressel's players who got blown out in every big game and could only hang their hat on playing in a bad B10 against some historically bad Michigan teams. I think that's silly though. The whole "relying on a former coaches players" is overused and just a way for fans to rationalize more complex issues.
Totally disagree with you regarding Urban/Day players. Urban’s players were much more mentally tough as was Urban than Day.

Not sure why they are getting such odds. Even if the offense and defense perform (and the offense is a big if after watching Saturdays game plan) odds are special teams gets us eliminated along the way. And that’s directly on Day as well.

Does Doug really have any insight? I’m being sincere when I ask this. About the only one I pay attention to is Birm.
I doubt any of them do. They're all in Jeff Snook mode. Pretend you're some serious insider. Throw shit at the wall, and if it sticks great if not nobody remembers.

The people that have any knowledge are Carter, Bjork, probably a few select trustees. That's it, and they're not talking.
