Captain Buckeye
Assistant Coach
It was an excellent hire and we thought that way until TCUN game in 2021. As Bill points out Ryan after the 2021 loss to TCUN tried to be something he wasn’t. So it started off wonderful and then Ryan changed with that 2021 loss.I’m more curious as to what Urban saw in Day to recommend him. Why does/did he think he was the right guy? What qualities made him the guy and pushed the University from doing its due diligence in a national search?
We all know Urban doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to hiring assistants. This honestly smacks of another he’s my guy, so of course he’s gonna be good scenario.
I’m as disappointed in the University for their part in this hire as I am Urban.
You should look at your processes when you lose absolutely. However when you’re as good as he was in 2019, 2020, and 2021 was there really a reason for a radical shift in 2022-current? Absolutely not.
Look we are set up to throw the ball first to Bills point. So do that and who cares about balance until we soften them up enough to run the ball. With the defense we have who cares about the statistics just score! Look what TCUN did the last 4 years with essentially no balance. Yes I get the Connor stuff but they still ran the ball what 70% of the time?
Another thing with Day that shows just how not himself he can be. Anyone notice his purposeful deep voice he does when interviewed? Sometimes he’ll go a few words before he turns on his deep voice so you can see him change in real time. Just be yourself man and that’s a guy who loves to throw the ball first. That’s how we are set up personnel wise so just roll with what you have both as a program and as a person.
