HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

So, at least 27 seniors on the roster and gone for next year. Most of the defensive line and backfield. Most of the offensive line, an NFL level receiver, both running backs, a borderline draft-level QB gone. I suspect that the QB room will be cut in half by the end of spring football. Don't know how committed to the program J. Smith is. I guess we'll find out as soon as the portal opens.

Open with Texas, close at AA, road trip to Seattle in between.

Gonna be a steep learning curve for next year's team. One thing is sure, a great deal of effort is needed to put the O and D lines back to Tressel/Meyer levels.

I hope the recruiting/portal-guys/bag men and Day are up to the task.

It's NOT about physicality. Holy shit. It's about MENTAL toughness. If you don't get that by now, then you're just as stupid as Day. The Blue knew they would win, even though they have inferior talent. WHY?
Yes. To bring out an old quote from Michael Dukakis, of all people, “a fish rots from the head down” and the fear of losing, rather than anticipation of winning, radiates from Day to the players and they make uncharacteristic mistakes. To me the best contrast from yesterday occurred late when a UM WR caught a wounded duck just off the grass to convert a huge third down while Carnell Tate dropped a pretty easy one that would have converted a shorter third down for OSU.
maybe some of you x's and o's guys can explain this to me...

everybody talks about how "you have to establish the run to open up the pass." and i get the logic of that... the threat of the run forces the secondary to play up tighter on the line of scrimmage for run support, which then gives the offense and the qb the chance to take the top off with their receivers.

what i've wondered the last few years as osu has really struggled with getting any kind of ground game going is this: can't you flip the logic the other way around? can't you open up running lanes by coming out passing?

two halves of the same equation, isn't it? why does the ground game have to come first?
They opened several games this year, including yesterday’s, doing just this with pretty decent success, and then went completely away from it. Why? Stupidity, ego, psychological infirmity?
I think the Michigan result is the culmination of what has been a pretty terrible year, through and through.

We were lucky to beat a very average Nebraska team starting a true Frosh QB.

We slept walked in the first half against a very game Marshall.

Indiana was going poorly until their punt unit decided it didn’t want to play.

The Oregon game was horribly game planned and awful clock management.

The Penn State game was a solid win but it’s not as if we played well. We won bc James Franklin shits down his legs.

We even showed a lot of warts against Akron.

Like, this season has been ridiculously saddled with uneven play and a team that generally sleep walks through long stretches of play.

I cannot point to a single game where I believe Ohio State played well in all (3) facets of the game. Call me spoiled, but with a roster this stacked, it’s just been excuse after excuse for what has been mediocre play with a loaded roster. The familiar “we want to be playing our best football at end of year” was the common mantra for why we’ve seen such sloppy and uninspired football all season. Well, November has come and gone, and this team still hasn’t even come close to playing up to its ability.

That starts and ends with Day.

Tired of the excuses and fake bravado. The culture is broken inside the WHAC. New leadership is needed ASAP. I’d honestly consider firing Day on Monday, and let Hartline be the interim HC going into playoffs…sounds crazy, but this team needs a shock.

If Hartline performs well let him take the reins going into 2025. If it’s a bit of a shitshow, open up a wide coaching search….I don’t really care to be honest. I’d just prefer Day to not be on the sidelines going into the playoffs. He’s more of a detriment than an asset at this point…..
I’d hoped some of the unevenness was season management and working on things to create a more resilient product in the end, and one thing they did do well was reduce offensive penalties by a lot, but in the end there was no chess forthcoming, just checkers all along. While my initial thought was to give Day the playoffs, the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve come around to your proposal.

One thing about OSU though is that they generally have their greatest success with young teams when it’s least expected. And, when a ton of seniors come back, they often seem to not be special (I won’t name names). I’ve kept hoping that Day would find a way to get help to develop the inner confidence to become what he could be with it (I do think he has a lot of positive characteristics otherwise) but yesterday’s offensive game plan, late game panic (again), inability to adjust tactics (again), and radiation of fear to the players (again) finally established to me, later than to many others as I’m generally hopeful, that, at least for him, that’s deep work that he can’t do while being the HC here.

Someone needs to look this up but Day has a chance to end the season 0-2 for the 4th straight year. I’m gonna guess it’s Cooper, if he even did it. We haven’t won a game after Thanksgiving since 2020.

And to everyone playing down the consistent trench recruiting failures with “we just need to hit the portal”. Unless we’re tampering (which knowing OSU if we even tried we’d get busted) you’re getting backups or 3rd string guys not cunt beating OL, much less NC OL. I’m tired of it.

I’ve said it for the last two years+ something is rotten in the Woody and it needs to be cleansed with fire. I’m talking everyone back room guys as well as recruiting folks. Burn it all down

That's kind of where I'm at too. Burn it to the ground and start from scratch. If that means a couple rough seasons so be it. Something has been brewing in the Woody for several seasons and it needs to be eliminated by any means necessary.

I took my Brutus shirt and wadded it up, I took my "Class of 67" Jersey and added it, cut up four Buckeye sweat shirts, seven t- shirts, my pennant, my mini helmet, an autographed pic of Rex Kern, set them on the garage floor, pulled my car (with a buckeye sticker) into the garage, blocked the door to the living room open, poured gasoline on the carpet and the garage floor, and am now going to strike the match. If we can't beat Michigan, life isn't worth it.

Wait, that's my granddaughter on the phone. Maybe next year.

Can anyone tell me the difference between Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley? Lincoln at least has Heisman’s can show off but other than that they are the same.
Nah I think Day has been pretty proactive of at least TRYING to address his faults, unlike Riley who thought defense was optional until just this year. I think it's all mental with Day at this point which is the most damning.

Literally the only way I could even think about wanting Day back is if he went out and addressed both sides of the LOS with a vengeance. I'm talking about going out and getting GT's OL coach and Randall Joyner. LJ has to go, as his DLs haven't been difference makers since arguably 2020 when they wrecked Clemson. Frye I kind of feel bad for given the injuries, but still. Good LOS play can cover up for shit skill positions as we saw yesterday.

On the other hand, who the fuck cares. Fuck football. Life is pain.
