You're the one who made the accusation. Back it up. Who are you to say what he was saying into the headset? You seem to think you know...so what is it?

That's not the only thing you said though.

No one doubts Day does the majority of the play calling.

The reason I stand by my assertion that Day isn't the guy is his habit (a behavior) of clenching up in tight spots. That is something some people take to an extreme (either good or bad) and if it's too far to the bad side of the spectrum (as it clearly is, to me, with Day) then all the time and waiting in the world isn't going to change it.

Cooper was a coach of coaches and by all accounts was good at it (a skill). The problem with having guys like Cooper and Day is that they are still the leader and the organization takes on their personality as sure as night follows day. If the personality is that of an extremely poor handler of pressure (a behavior) then you are going to get frequent bed shattings.

There is no development away from this. Time you allow this kind of problem to fester is just lost. You aren't going to change that foundational bedrock of a grown man's personality with another season or staff changes.

Some guys are great position coaches, assistants, or coordinators but don't have the skill set to be a head coach. We see it at every level of football, and in business for that matter. They can't or won't delegate, pressure brings out the worst in them and the people they're leading feed off that energy.

I'm a broken record on it but one more time, Day needed to learn how to be a head coach at a lower pressure place than Ohio State. That's not just him, that's anybody. It's like your first CEO job coming at a Fortune 500 company.

1000000000% agree with this. Against Georgia he just let it fly. We were never supposed to win that game, so wtf not. When it actually came down to it, though. Stroud bails him out with a 40 yard run, then turtle, turtle, turtle, kick a way too long FG.

Last time in checked I thought I was a member of a OSU fan site called BuckeyePlanet.

I don't remember having to proof up bonafides on all of my opinions.

Do I need to have super-secret access to the comms on the sideline to come to the conclusion that Hartline is a OC in name only ?

I think a HUGE portion of the blame needs to go to Gene Smith..we complain about Day hiring unqualified coaches...

Gene hired a guy with no HC experience to coach a top 5 program without running a national search..it may still work out, but looking iffy

Smith needed to be the adult in the room everytime Day chose to hire or retain an unqualified, QC coach. I understand that Bailey, Fleming, Hartline and Dennis may grow into great coaches...Hartline sort of has already at least as a WR coach.

Maybe the biggest thing is when Wilson left for Tulsa, Day brought in a completely inexperienced Bailey, who everyone loves, but.., to replace Wilson, a guy widely recognized as having one of the better offensive minds in the game

AND all Gene could do was say great job Ryan, here's your raise..sound familiar..cough, cough i.e. Fleming..though compared to Fleming, Day is a Rock Star

Yes.

When in reality we should’ve called plays to score. Not plays to set up a long field goal.

I think hiring an aggressive OC would help get around this. I think Day can still turn it around but right now I don’t think he will.

I don’t think that means 8 losses or something stupid but I do think that means more losses in our biggest games.

Hell, 4th and 1 to start the Mich Game after Xavier (?) got tripped up. It’s 2023 and you’re at midfield man. Line up and send a message that you’re there to score points.

Also should have chewed the ref out to respot for a 1st but the man freezes up way too often on the sideline. The end of half was another.
