HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

You can be a successful HC with either of the fire or ice approaches. There are numerous examples of each (Tressel and Urban come to mind) being successful.

The key is you have to be authentic. You can't fake it. They will take on your personality.

If, however, your personality is that of a passive aggressive ball of anxiety that locks up tighter than a nun's you-know-what in high pressure situations then your chances of being highly successful are greatly diminished.

I think Day needs to follow the Drinkwitz advice. The best case scenario is that the reason for Day’s fire to win not translating is because he has too many things on his plate and can’t focus on what he needs to as head coach, rather than anything inauthentic about what he expresses.

Giving up play calling potentially solves the problem of bad/tight play calling in big games and not having the time to instill the desired chemistry/fire with the assistant coaches and the players.

It starts with making the coaching moves he needs to and bringing in a new Kevin Wilson Day has more confidence in.

(As an aside, I think it’s interesting people are jumping to “Day is a liar for not giving up play calling last season” and not “maybe the guy who has never called plays before wasn’t up to the needed standard at play calling and Day couldn’t give up play calling.)

Then he actually need to give up play calling and focus on doing what’s best for the team as head coach.

As I’ve said before, if he doesn’t aggressively take the needed steps this off-season, I’ll be fully on board with looking for a new coach pending the results next season.

The way people have fucked the English language on social media could we shorten "growing hoard" into a "gwoard"? It sounds cooler, requires fewer characters and you could probably make a cool emoji for it.

Hell, why not join a gwoard? I bet they serve a good lunch spread at their meetings.

Horde*
Hoarding is what boomers do on that tv show where they fill their house with junk.

It wasn't a bait. People are actually doing that.

Where? This sounds very similar to the "we should fire day if Michigan wins because it will destroy our recruiting" conjecture.

Because I don't believed Day lied. I think he genuinely wants to pass the baton, but he also wants to have control of the offense. It can't cut both ways. I think Day withholds info, but doesn't lie.

Originally, I believe that Hartline's promotion was both a way to keep him at OSU, and somebody that Day can train to run his system. I don't think it is progressing like that, or as fast as it needs to.

I just think he is having a hard time letting the play calling go, and time is of the essence for him to be the CEO.

The track record for HC's who are the primary play callers is not very good. The best HC's take a CEO approach and hire the best assistant's out there.

I don't think he genuinely wants to hand off the baton. Emphatically agree with everything else.

If true...I like this Ryan Day. Better not touch Alford though. It's not his fault OSU isn't paying.

Edit: also Hartline. Until we stop getting 5⭐'s untouchable. Also, I hope they are wrong about Hendo.
Frye and Dennis would be my guess. I can't see Alford or Hartline going anywhere...if they did, I would be pissed. But that ain't going to happen.

Agreed.... I am hard on Frye but the Oline was progressing through the season until the Cotton Bowl debacle.

He probably deserves one more season.

The O coaching staff needs heat, because complacency in a coaching staff is not good.

Buckeye Scoop was correct about Will Howard. But no..... Lol
It's not Buckeye Scoop that is reporting it. It's Football Scoop. Two different things.
Football Scoop is pretty reliable especially when it comes to coaching moves. They are followed by a lot od coaches, analysts, etc....
Buckeye Scoop is Barton, Nevadabuck, etc..
