HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Commands respect... great integrity.. articulate
I'll always love Spiels, but serious question, what qualifications does he have to run of the two largest Athletic Departments in the country? One of people's biggest complaints about Ryan Day is that the Head Coach job at OSU shouldn't be a first time job, why should it be any different for a job that in reality is much bigger? Spielman was a legend as a player, an all time Buckeye hero, and has had a good broadcasting career, but what administrative background qualifies him for the job?

Yeah that's why I wondered if he meant Rick.

Chris Does have his cancer foundation. But not sure how much he runs on the day to day

Fair enough. It's 12-7 against ranked teams, and that includes two asterisk losses to Connor Stalions.

Ranked by who? Ranked when?

We laugh at the SEC schills non stop when they play the “ranked opponent “ card.

He’s 1-3 in the CFP
He’s 1-1 in NY6

He does a very good job against everyone else. Then again, he inherited a machine that should knock off tomato cans no matter who’s coaching.

Sure, but Day has said all the right things last year at this time (leaving the offensive play calls to the new OC etc...). I don't have a lot of confidence in Day right now to do the right thing.

Waiting for the guy who created the mess to magically unfuck himself and fix the mess isn’t an optimal strategy.

If I just sit here, maybe the problem will fix itself is a far too common mindset.

Nothing against anyone here, but I don’t for the life of me understand people saying football coaches or players with no business experience should be an AD. Especially the OSU AD. It requires a lot of things completely different than what works on the field, in terms of skills, approaches to people, job description, etc. What does a football coach know about opening opportunities or generating facilities for rowing or fencing? Or when to hire or fire a synchronized swimming coach? Or how to deal with revenue-based contracts? I just don’t see it.

Since wins against ranked opponents tends to mean "ranked by the AP at the time" that stat means little to me - I want to see the list. This season's win over ND counts as a top 10 win because ND was ranked 9th at the time. Early season ranked wins tend to be the most dubious.

One example I recall is from 2000 because it shows how absurd this stat can be. Alabama was ranked 3rd in the preseason poll. They went to Pasadena and lost 35-24 to UCLA. "UCLA upsets #3 Alabama!" made the cover of Sports Illustrated. Alabama finished 3-8 that season while the Bruins went 6-6. Turns out it was just an average team beating a bad one, but it counts as a top 5 win for UCLA football.

Has OSU ever had an AD with business experience? Geiger was a rower and Mean Gene was a football player. It’s an administrative position. The Dave Brandon’s of the world, just never work out.

Hold on now, we can all agree that one magnificent sumbitch son of a son of a sailor was the greatest AD in the history of athletics or directing. Right?

Days complete lack of any rotation at certain positions and completely ignoring non starters really starting to run guys off fast
Guys aren’t going to sit around and wait to be “developed” anymore. Lots of money being thrown around.

Issues at QB, issues with the line and a lot of negativity around the program right now probably aren’t helping things.
