HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I get the logic, but everybody got the covid year, so in a way that would kind of wash out. Yes, for last year and this year it means that the roster is, on average, a year older.

That said, I think their strategy of basically cherry picking more experienced guys from the transfer portal is viable and sustainable. It seems that they're managing their resources and shifting more focus on getting players out of the portal rather than spend a huge amount of time and resources on recruiting high school kids who, when the times comes, maybe actually come on campus (and stay on campus) AND actually live up to their billing, especially on the defensive and offensive line where recruits are so difficult to project.

But, as you say, time will tell. I'm just not 100% sold on the idea that Harbaugh can't keep this strategy up. I think 2024 will be an interesting year.
scUM fans said Tressel’s first win was unsustainable and thought that till 2006 when it finally hit them. Hopefully will learn before 5 years. TOSU needs changes now.

Day laying the groundwork for a "Champions of Life" title?

RYAN DAY “NOT GONNA OVERREACT” AFTER MICHIGAN LOSS, RECENT RECRUITING MISSES: “I KNOW THAT THE PROGRAM IS IN A GREAT PLACE”

“We're not gonna overreact. As much that (Michigan) loss hurts, we're not gonna overreact on it. It's not worth it,” Day said during his signing day press conference Wednesday. “We have a game against Georgia ahead of us that we're focusing on. We're hammering recruiting and looking to adapt to what's going on across the country. And I know that the program is in a great place even though we did lose that game and it hurts. I mean, that's our goal every year, you can't walk away from it. But at the end of the day, we have some really good people in this program. We have really good talent, really good coaches and recruit really good people.”

“There are a lot of things going on out there that I know it's hard for guys to walk away from. And we're doing everything we can to make sure we're focused on doing the right thing,” Day said.

Maybe I missed it, but has Day clarified what "doing the right thing" means?

No but I am confident we are doing it, whatever it is. With really great people.

So we've got that going for us. Which is nice.

I’d take the wtf losses for 2021 and 2022 scUM wins. Not just the wins but the angst AA would be in.

When I think of 2018 all I remember is winning The Game and finishing with a fun Bowl game. Winning The Game, the way they won it, is all I really remember.

I have to actually remember if it was Iowa or Purdue that year and don't give a single fuck about either one of them.

Yeah there is an argument to be made that Meyer would fare much better in the 12 team CFP era cause those WTF's wouldn't hurt you and he was generally great against the top end teams barring the WTF against Clemson.

Day seems like a steadier coach. Less likely for WTF's but mearly decent against the high end.

But people are also super hard on Day. That defense not showing up didn't start with Day. It started with Meyer and his QB power offense was starting to become stale.

The question is would Meyer adapt like Saban did? I'd like to think his hiring of Day means yes but we will never know.

I never worried about the toughness of the teams under Meyer. Hell his first year we were not good yet he went 12-0 and beat ttun. That shit buys a lot of 'get out of jail free' cards if needed. Then he pulls in a natty. Zach who?

Day just needs to read the room and he'll be fine. Cooper was "aw shucks" too much and the fan base responded the way we do. Day is getting the players and his staff is the best in the country in my opinion but he has to make sure we get back towards choking mfs over a game of checkers. That attitude anyway

I'm not sure either, but by process of elimination, it's definitely not to "crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
