HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I think Gene Smith should talk to Ryan Day and encourage him to pursue the NFL sooner than later if that is his ultimate goal.

Luke Fickell is probably the most likely person to take over if Day moves on. I don't think we want Fickell to take a job at a better program and now have to convince him to leave to come back to the Buckeyes. I think Fickell ultimately wants to be HC for the Buckeyes but they shouldn't want to make it a hard choice for him if he builds up another big name program.

I think Fickell stays at Cincinnati until the Ohio State job comes available.

Fickell is not a better option for OSU than Day at this time. He was a very good coach at a lower tier school, OSU and UC aren’t in the same stratosphere. Wisconsin is a much better step up for Fickell than OSU. Vrabel is also not a better option, and I doubt he comes back to college. He wasn’t a fan of recruiting, and I’m sure he’d be less a fan of NIL. OSU is not Indiana, OSU is not at the level of Rutgers. OSU was in The Game in the 1st half, Day took his foot off the pedal. And the dam broke on an exhausted defense.
I think Day is doing too much on offense, and needs an offensive mind to primarily call the plays. And idk if that’s from an outside hire or what we currently have. Wilson was a great offensive mind before, had some prolific offenses with OU, not sure why he’s not utilized more. Or screw it, just hire a young pup looking to make a name for himself. But Dayisnt the worst coach ever. Hope everyone is back to being rational and some what settled emotionally by seasons end

Yep, OSU is so fucking brutal that you can go 11-1 a season after a Rose bowl win and people want you fired. You do that at any other bigten school you get a 15year contract and 150million guaranteed.

Now that’s true. The Illinois fan base around here knows what we are and what they are. TOSU has a different standard. I know Day knows it.

He isn't the worst coach ever but he isn't as good as Harbaugh.

That alone should be reason for change.

Uh I wouldn’t say he isn’t as good as Hairball, funny how you forget how laughable we thought Hairball was, even just a week ago. It took him 5yrs to beat OSU, and at one time players and fans were even bored with The Game, and some even called for it to be ended.
Recency bias is an interesting thing.

One major thing Day should do is give up play calling. Let Wilson do it from the box. With Day dealing with NIl issues, transfer portal as well managing the assistant coaches, he’s spread incredibly thin. Day doesn’t go from a top 3-5 HC, to being no good. OSU has a 1st time HC going through bumps, and in those bumps he has lost 5 games in 4yrs. How many 1st time HCs(even with the talent he inherited) have been able to do that?

It's been 4 years now, he's getting worse and Harbaugh just clearly outcoached him for the second year in a row. He outcoached him to an almost incomprehensible degree.

It isn't comfortable but it's reality. The tide has turned. OSU is behind tsun in coaching and at several position groups.

That was not the case at all when Day took over.
