Does our lack of simmer prevent him from sorting it out?

He hired a new DC with a proven track record almost immediately. How is that not sorting it out? What else should he have done in the last month that he hasn't already?

I don't believe you actually have sincere doubt over Day's ability to fix things, or at least willingness to. I think you're just hurting from the loss and lashing out.

People overreact all the time after stunning losses. I remember seeing posters on here call the Bama dynasty over after they got blown out by Trevor Lawrence in the NC game.

This year was no question a disappointment/failure. But take heed in the fact that we've already seen Day make tough decisions (demoting Coombs 2 games into the season) and impressive coaching adjustments (Clemson 2019 to Clemson 2020).

If we can get this NIL situation under control and remain elite in recruiting, I'm confident in Day's ability to regain control of the rivalry and compete with Bama (as much as anyone else can at least)

Maybe tone down the psychoanalysis through the monitor because it's perfectly reasonable to doubt Day at this point. The points have been discussed.

Hiring a new DC is certainly a step in the right direction. Acting as if that's all there is to it and anyone having doubts is unhinged is a bit much.

The young studs who proved themselves and/or are on deck for next season and the new top-flight guys coming in who, with Knowles, are going to fix the problem are, that's right, you guessed it, in and coming to Columbus to play for DAY. Those guys, certainly a large percentage of them, wouldn't be here to play for Urban and definitely wouldn't be playing for Tressel. These guys want to play with a dynamic offense and a top level QB so that they have a chance to win the playoff. We simply did not have that previously. They're not coming to beat scum and Wisconsin in Indy every year. That's a means to get where they/we want to and should be. We all need to simmer down and let him sort this out.
I think this is an interesting take and one that, with the advent of NIL and the transfer portal process, is spot on.

As much as we fans live the traditions of ole alma mater, the kids coming here today may just not give a shit about the traditions. NIL, the portal and the playoffs lend itself to a more mercenary like player. Sure, we’ll still have the guys that care about the traditions, but as @RugbyBuck stated, beating Michigan may just be more of a means to an end moving forward.

You aren’t playing for a NC if you aren’t winning the CCG and if you lose to scUM you aren’t in Indy. We built our team to beat Alabama/Clemson but we don’t play them.

Certainly, that’s the challenge for us moving forward, especially if the vulvarenes are indeed resurgent. We have to be able to win both the B1G and then in the playoff. Not many schools have the resources and talent to pull that off. We do or, at least, should.

Maybe dial down the cynicism then? There isn't much about Day's track record to support the level of apprehension you have about him. It seems like you're getting yourself worked up over hypotheticals that are highly unlikely to happen. I fully expect us to beat the shit out of scUM next year and restore order. Just gotta be patient until then

I’m pretty sure we’re going to exact revenge but Day’s inexperience and the enormity of the defensive shit sandwich he’s been handed is concerning.

It’s a new job for him and he’s dealing with three straight empty defensive recruiting classes for all intents and purpose. I am very concerned that one hire isn’t going to just unfuck that overnight

I hear you and don’t necessarily disagree, but/and I think there’s more defensive talent here and coming than you’re thinking and from what I can see Knowles seems to be pretty good at scheming up how to max-use the talent he’s got. Couple that with the fact that we need a good defense, not necessarily an elite one to pair with this offense, I think we’re ok this year.

There’s a distinct possibility one could get to Indy with one loss in the division. Michigan just did it. If the playoffs do expand as predicted, there is also a distinct possibility one could get in without winning the CCG. In fact this has also already happened.
