Anyone else ready for this start? I just heard about this new miniseries from a coworker the other day. It looks like the same people(Hanks and Spielberg) that made Band of Brothers did this miniseries as well. If it's anything like Band of Brothers I am all for it.

Band of Brothers is one of the greatest things to have ever been on television. The Pacific coming soon means HBO is showing BoB again. Win/Win.

The Pacific looks even better than BoB. It follows three men thru the pacific theater. Two of whom wrote books on their experience.

One word: Epic.

And it starts on my Birthday.

Well, I don't have HBO, so I guess I'll have to wait for the DVD. I'm sure HBO will do a phenomenal job, but it will be interesting to see how they handle it. The Pacific War was actually a lot more focused and brutal than the Western Front-not a continuous campaign, but a series of horrifically bloody/ferocious amphibious invasions, followed by lots of time waiting around. The Pacific War was also more racial than the Western Front-GIs didn't take German skulls home for ashtrays, and, Nazi attitudes towards Jews aside, the fight was not literally a battle between distinct racial groups, unlike the Pacific War.

After watching Spielberg and Hanks (whom I have much trust in when it comes to WWII), it seems like it will be clearly different than BoB. They talked about it in the "preview" thing on HBO today.

I'm pretty pumped for this.
