Anybody finish watching the series?

Didn't compare to BoB in the least, though I will say it was graphic and accurate, at least as much as I can recall from my days as a History major. Didn't give in to sensationalism or unnecessary dramatization.
Made for a hard to follow story, but when you are telling a true story, it doesn't lend itself to a simplistic script.

Good, but not fantastic. C+ IMHO.

I'd agree that it didn't compare to BoB, though I'd give it a higher grade than a C+. I really enjoyed it and found it pretty consuming by the end. The downside is that now my fucking girlfriend is hooked on True Blood, which is, let's admit it, just another vampire trash series.

when the showed the pictures of the guys at the end, it was cool to see how close they matched up with the actors, pretty good job of casting.

Too bad for some of the guys I was thinking "who the hell was that?" Which sort of points out the lack of character development for some of the characters. The other negative for me is I didn't even really like the main characters. Leckie was an annoying dick. Even at the end when he is with his future wife I was thinking "how is she falling for this jagoff?" Basilone was ok (although he was a huge unkown until he got a full episode dedicated to him). Sledge's continual forlorn looks got tiresome to watch. At least Snafu made the Sledge scenes interesting.

Overall I enjoyed it since the imagery was incredible, and the war scenes were well done. On it's own it's a good series, but comes up well short of Band of Brothers. At the end of BoB I truly cared for all the characters, even the minor ones. Not so much here.

The best thing I can say about The Pacific was that is was consistent from beginning to end, consistently BAD.

Just fucking horrible. The most discombobulated, non-sequential, hard to follow piece of shit I have ever seen filled with STUPID side stories that do nothing but water down what should have been an epic story.

The hardest fighting any army has done in History, and they fuck it up with love stories and mental wards. Vomit....

I cannot believe that Hanks and Speilberg actually attached their names to that abortion of a series.

Leckie was probably my favorite character. To each his own, I guess. I'm not sure I get all the venom for it. Was it a let down, particluarly in terms of presentation, from BoB? Sure, but that has more to do with how epically great BoB was. It took me much longer to get into The Pacific, and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as BoB, but I'm glad I watched the series from beginning to end.

Overall I don't think this series is as well done as BoB or even close. I agree with Folanator to an extent in wishing they had gone deeper on the hard fighting that occured.
I taped every week and I want to watch the whole thing again after I get rid of some of the beginnings and endings. About 12 minutes was used up each week on those.
Having griped enough, I can say that I did enjoy watching it and thought it was instructive and entertaining.

Seriously. Those were the longest intros and outros ever. It really did seem they only left about 45 minutes per episide.

It seemed like I was 1/4 into an episode before I got to new content although the first couple minutes were usually Tom Hanks giving some background of what was happening next so it was worthwhile.
Makes me glad my Grandpa was dropping bombs over the Pacific although I'm sure he had his own intense battles. I know he had a lot of medals. I wonder what the percentage of guys who fought in WWII put their experiences on paper? I know my Grandpa did.
