I’ve said it a few teams in the 2018 Defense thread but I just don’t get all the hype on Greg. Never have. I just don’t see an elite defensive coach. Not a $1mm defensive coach IMO.
He’s good. He can build up a program and all. It was impressive what he did at Rutgers.
But in 2018 do I see an elite level defensive mind? Sorry but I don’t. He’s ok. Not elite. And I’ve just been very surprised that nobody has ever questioned that. Even after the cluster fuck that was Iowa 2017 when EVERYONE should have caught heat he was never really mentioned and I found that really odd. Still do.
There are several D Coordinators out there who would be getting more out of this talent IMO.
You don’t think that perhaps the players are having these issues because the scheme is too complicated and they are thinking too much?I thing Schiano is elite in making in game and especially half time adjustments...
Our issues are not scheme... they are mental lapses... being out of position... making incorrect reads... taking bad angles

Put Borland's head on Browning's body and this D is completely different
Reminds me years back when Zach Borland volunteered to play MLB and changed the entire defense
You might be correct but it would surprise me especially after what happened when he was named the coach in Knoxville. I will be surprised if he ever gets another HC gig in the college ranks. Might get another shot as a assistant in the NFL but that is about it.Our DC quibbles aside, I have to assume Rutgers will be giving Schiano a call in a couple months...
Not that knowledgeable enough, like other guys on this board, to judge the talent level on the defensive side of the ball but I do believe that there are better DCs out there. IMOThere are several D Coordinators out there who would be getting more out of this talent IMO.

That's not what I am seeing. Deep half is a simple assignment and Wint got sucked in against a play that is coached against at the high school level yesterday.
Wonder if we could trade Ash for Schiano to Rutgers... Isn't Grinch the co-DC? Doesn't some of the defensive woes(especially in the secondary) fall on him as well, or does he get a 1 year grace period(and does the same grace period apply to Johnson, because the CBs have also underwhelmed)? Not that knowledgeable enough, like other guys on this board, to judge the talent level on the defensive side of the ball but I do believe that there are better DCs out there.
