Close behind are Chris Cornell and Layne Staley.

Layne Staley was an incredible vocalist and song writer. Chains was such a great band, and they to this day don't get the credit they deserve for being as influential as they were during the whole "Grunge" era. Nirvana usually carries that flag, and deservedly so, but Chains may have put out the best music of that era. DOWN IN A HOLE is probably my favorite song song of all time.

Since Orbison, Mercury, and Amy Lee have already been mentioned, let me throw out Annie Lennox and Billy Joel: Joel's voice isn't even a shadow of what it used to be so people tend to forget how good it was back in the 1970s.
