Maurice clarret. Instrumental in getting the buckeyes our 1st chip in many many years and did it against a team that was supposed to be one of the best in college football, ever. And Miami winning was supposed to be a mere formality to everyone but buckeye fans

What what what??? Blasphemy. He was good, for a season.... Archie was stellar, and won 2 Heisman's. This shouldn't even be a debate. The options for the poll should have been Archie, Archie, Archie, and Archie.

Yeah, but he never caught a touchdown pass.
Chic Harley threw a touchdown pass against Illinois and threw two more against Wisconsin. This is in addition to both punts and kickoffs returned for TDs during his career.

Where does a mere two time Heisman winner stand in the scheme of things? Archie said, "It was really an honor to be a pallbearer for the greatest player in Ohio State history." Yep, Archie Griffin was a pall bearer for Chic.

Once again the choice is easy with Archie, but I would argue that Clarett was the most talented running back, and maybe player, who has ever played for tOSU. To accomplish what he did as a freshman, when he was the focus of the offense and had nagging injuries all year, is truly unprecedented. Every time I see his name, I can't help but think about what could have been . . .

I'll always love on MoC but to put him among the most "talented" ever here is rough. Agreed, watching Mo play as a sophomore would have been great, and makes alot of Buckeye fans certainly think about "what could have been." To me, more intriguing "WHAT COULD HAVE BEENS" would be a healthy Keith and an eligible Cris in their Senior seasons.

Peace

Nice post. As we all know, Archie will always be eloquent in any public setting, as he always has been. For him to refer to Chic as the greatest ever was great, but that was Archie being Archie. That's all. We all as Buckeye fans see this man as larger than life, Arch just sees himself as a "guy" I seriously wonder at times if he really realizes how many people think of him basically as "football God" in Ohio?

Peace

Archie.....hands down.

It's funny that no one mentioned Cassady as one of the best. Woody credited him with saving his job. He won a heisman.......played defensive back, won a national title. He blows Clarett off the charts....

I'd put Cassady in the top 3 in this category.

Never saw Archie play, so can't say for sure. Voted "Other" in honor of Mr. Byars. Based on talent alone, Clarett could have been better than all of them, had the worst O-line in my memory and still made great things happen with his superior vision. Throw in the takeaway that saved the title and I'll always have a soft spot for Mo C. I can't imagine the pain I'd still be carrying if we never got a championship after all those near-miss heartbreaks in the 90's and 00's.

Eddie is of course one of my very favorites, too, but few realize how much he benefitted from running behind Pace (and then Matthews). That being said, I'll forever remember watching him put up 314 yards on Simeon Rice, Kevin Hardy and a very good Illini defense at Ohio Stadium. And as we all know, Eddie is a total class act. Big bonus points.

Byars was El Hombre Grande, though, in my time. A complete back, so light on his feet for his size, and with those amazing hands.

Throw in Beanie, Boom, Antonio P. & the Quiet Storm.....we've been spoiled my friends. Who's next after Boom? Jordan Hall has impressed me for sure, but I'd like to see Rod Smith get more time, we all remember Eddie had the dropsies early on, would have been so sad if he wasn't given those extra chances to prove himself.
