Gene Smith (Former AD, ‘10 AD of the Year, '13 NAAC Organizational Leadership Award)

I said it in the game thread last night. These were Southern officials, and they were going to look out for the Southern team. They were SEC officials, and they were going to look out for espn's interests. There's no god damned reason that we shouldn't have had a PAC crew. It's one thing to screw up a call on the field, but when you're blatantly ignoring the very basis of the replay rule to favor one team, don't tell me it's not deliberate. I hope LSU beats the crap out of Clemson, but I won't be watching.

The officials (specially replay) were bad but I chalk it up to incompetence not conspiracy.

OSU has the ball in its hands with two chances to win at the end. They punted once and made a mental error the second time.

Ref whining is for BWI and our bitches in AA. Winning teams find a way to overcome it.

Oh, we did plenty to ourselves to cost us the win. And I'm not going to whine about any calls made on the field, but the blatant disregard for "irrefutable video evidence" is too much. Gene is right to go ballistic, and maybe it'll result in us getting PAC officials the next time we play a Southern team.

hurts to say but I agree. Bad calls influenced the game even more than norma but even with them, OSU had ample opportunities to put Clemson away. FGs instead of TDs, dropped passes that would have been TDs, the obvious miscue to end the game, the roughing the kicker, we could go on and on. Any single one of those doesnt occur and our chances of winning skyrocket. If two of them dont occur, we easily win.

Just didnt complete the effort. Thats on us. At the end of the day we may look back on this season as a great one but like 2015, a missed opportunity as a whole.

Future is bright with Day though. Have to
Believe we’ll be back in it next year and many to come.

I’m glad Gene Smith is speaking his mind. Finally. We are a cash cow for this sport and we get shit on constantly. It’s about time Gene said something.

Yep. Jim Delaney woke up this morning and checked to make sure the Rose Bowl was OK and then went to brunch. Kudos to GS for having the balls to call out this shit.

I would agree on the replay booth being incompetent until I saw their post game comments. In the post game the refs said that the reason for the change to incomplete was that the ball was moving in his hands.

That’s called a lie.

He secured the ball immediately and it never shifted a mm until the hit.

Had they had given some bullshit about not making a football move then it would be incompetence.

Pretty much I would of pulled p the espn twitter slow motion clip on my phone and shoved it in his face. Don't lie to my face. You f'd up I'd not like it but I'd take it if you manned up and said sorry we screwed the pooch there. But no you doubled down with something anyone who looks at 10 second video can see is nonsense.

Honestly, at this point it’s kind of irrelevant. It’s all gravy for ESPN who
are the puppet masters at the moment.

We can root for LSU to beat the brakes
off Clemson, but they’ve already achieved exactly what they wanted. Which is an ACC/SEC title game, and the Big 10 has been neutralized by the exit.

While OSU vs LSU would’ve been a ratings bonanza, the single game boost in ratings wouldn’t have been worth the long term implications of the Fox Sports and Big 10 partnership that is beginning to take market share from ESPN.

I think normally I’d agree....I try to be objective as possible.

But you read the Thamel piece today, and jive it with Day calling the game “strange” and then Gene going on record as saying he’s pissed.....after removing himself from the playoff committee because of shenanigans he felt were underhanded he couldn’t control because OSU was involved.

I wouldn’t be as convinced as I am, if it weren’t for the feelings inside the WHAC. They’re pissed.

Again, it’s important to state, this is about reviews from the box, influencing the game on the field. There’s an added layer of fuckery here......
