Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

My Takes:

a.) We deserved to lose. You can't get the field position and turnovers that we did and only have a six point lead going into the final four minutes of the game. Its inexcusable. Between the turnovers and the kick returns, I've never seen a team starting with such great FP in a game. It seemed like the worst the Bucks would start at is their own 45 every series. A truly great team has a 10 or 17 point lead going into the final 4 minutes.

b.) I'm sick of hearing about how great our secondary is. They can't cover. Whitner gives too much space, Salley never (and I mean NEVER) wraps up the ball carrier, and Everett is more suited to a SS position.

c.) The reorganization of our OL (Sims to LG, etc.) was done merely to keep a seat warm for Alex Boone later in the season. I'd be shocked if Alex doesn't start over Datish at LT sometime within the next five games.

d.) Pittman has given the team a spark, but he's too small and gets dinged up every play (a la Lydell Ross). They give the ball to him on 1st down, he gains 5 yards (or whatever), gets hit, limps back to the huddle, gets it on 2nd down, and he's stopped for a 1 yard or no gain. This happened repeatedly last night and against Miami (not just when Mussy & Danielson highlighted it). They've got to do a better job of rotating the tailbacks in the absence of a durable Big Ten-style back. Especially with Tressel's propensity to call the same plays conseutively. Which brings me to my next point ..

e.) Tressel's biggest weakness as a play caller is that he calls the same play back to back every series. Tailback run on 1st, the same tailback run on 2nd, and then a passing situation on 3rd down. Same thing with the QB draw when Troy Smith is in the game. If they had switched it up even once, they could've caught Texas off guard and could've capitalized on one of those turnovers.

f.) Please, please, PLEASE stop calling plays where Ginn is passed or handed the ball behind the line of scrimmage. Its absolutely ridiculous that they make no effort to get him the ball on slants or posts or whatever. He's the best athlete on the field. Throw him the ball while he's in full stride and let him make plays.

g.) Phenomenal game by A.J. last night.

h.) Can we PLEASE get a QB coach in here who not only can develop QB's but can RECRUIT them as well?? For as long as I've been an OSU fan, there's one consistent major achilles heel for the Program: there's never a consistent or steady signal-caller under center. The two years that we had CK showed what this program can do with any kid of steadiness at that position.

i.) Our National Title hopes may've been dashed last night, but I still think we can do some major damage this season. LETS GO BUCKS !!

Very upset over our lose last night but by no means is our season over. IMO you must start TS next week in the scrimmage against SDSU, he needs work in certain situations. Also Ryan Hamby neeeeds to work on his hands because that may have cost us the game. Also AJ HAwk is by far the best linebacker i have ever seen play. Hes absolutely amazing

If we run the table in the Big Ten and go 8-0 then we still will have a shot at the NC or atleast a BCS

hawk is such a great football player, just his presence on the field is amazing, like after he had the interception and he felt someone come up behind him, he just focused on securing the football with both arms, and took the hit.

Tickets: OSU v. Texas

Did anyone else notice that there were tickets being sold, face value, at the Schott from about 8 a.m. 'till 12 / 12:30?

I guess they were only "mostly" sold out after Mondays internet release...I heard that they ended up having an extra 1,500 - 2,000 tickets come available that morning!

wtf?!?

Happens all the time when they are trying to hold tickets for VIPs who may want to go at the last minute. But that many, that late - that needs to be explained.

BTW - I was going to the game with my wife but just as we were going out the door she went into labor. So I had one extra ticket myself.

Impressed....

FWIW, a few comments from a UT fan about your team...

I think ya'll looked d*mn impressive last night.

* I'd be shocked if your LB crew isn't the best in the nation. Other teams have also sacrficied pass coverage to try and stop Vince, but they still couldn't stop him. Granted, we had Cedric then, but even though Charles is a Freshman he's extremely fast and must be respected (Ramonce Taylor is mighty fast also, but some early celebration may have gotten him sidelined ...he's supposed to get about 10 touches and only got 2).

* I'd be shocked if your return game isn't tops too. It's not just Santonio and Ginn, it's the awesome blocking. Textbook.

* Both of your lines, the foundation of any good team, performed quite admirably.

I would expect ya'll to run the tables the rest of the way.

Thanks for an incredible game last night. I haven't enjoyed watching a college game that much in years. Sorry one team had to lose.

Oh yeah...and Michigan Sucks. :wink2:

Sloop...........I totally disagree about Pittman. He runs 50 times harder than Lydell/Hall. Is twice as fast as both. When there is nothing there, he does a great job of bouncing it outside. I have not seen him get "banged up" except for the 1 time against Miami where he got drilled in the midsection. Last night he landed on his knee very hard. Both times, I saw him miss like 1 play each. Far and away better than Lydell. In fact, I think he didnt get near enough touches last night. Most of his runs were like 6-10 yards each.

Also disagree about the secondary. I dont see any problem with the players, but the playcalling instead. Same with the offense. Great athletes and talent, nobody who knows how to make it work correctly.

Still not gonna complain, played a hell of a team and took them down to the wire. I think we have a 90% chance of winning the big 10, going to another BCS bowl.

I agree with that completely. Pittman was the most impressive player on offense for us all game, and he only got 17 carries. If he had gotten 8-10 more carries I think it would have made a huge difference. The playcalling was pretty lousy at times, but there were also execution problems on offense.
Here's a thought, when we get a turnover inside the 50, throw the ball to the endzone on the first play. Make 'em pay for giving us the ball.

Some thoughts on the game:

5. Well done, Horns. I can't wait for our rematch in the Rose Bowl. ND will beat USC, Purdue will beat ND, and the SEC teams will take care of each other. Va Tech will lose a couple in the ACC. FSU will choke against Florida. See you in Pasadena!

I hope we don't meet again this year (please take that as a compliment) but if we do, I bet it would be just as epic as last night. Those LBs were even better than billed (which was pretty high to begin with).

the Bucks will fall in the polls after the game they played.
Who would they replace them with? Iowa, OU, UM, Missouri, Arkansas, I cain't see any body who they think would be better for the number 4 position.

Agreed. I would be a crime if there OSU is not the highest ranked one loss team.
