why didn't zwick ever go deep, he had all day to pass. The line did a great job

Tressel would never admit to this, but I think he was holding the offense back to keep Texas and conference opponents in the dark for some pretty cool plays. That, and against Texas and other tough teams, the long ball won't be quite so much an option, so let's be sure the offense is all on the same page so we can move the ball down the field efficiently and mistake-free.

And give Zwick a little more credit. When was the last time an Ohio State QB was 17-23? I don't remember Smith's numbers against Michigan. Were they on par with that, or better? Regardless, 17-23 is pretty good, whether you're playing against Miami University, Texas, or against air.

Nice post, I apprecite the comment and I should of handled things differently. I understand where you're coming from and how down Buckeye fans seem to be on JZ at times. I'm actually TB proponent, but I don't think TB should be starting now. I think JZ is a fine starter, and I would be comfortable with TS as well. In fact, I think JZ is a better passer than TS. I don't think JZ had a bad game by any stretch, I just think he looked shaky at times, that's all. Just sparking conversation and I took what was probably a light hearted post in the wrong manner. Communication through writing sucks. F the Horns. :oh: :io:
My bad... :drunks:
i don't think you should have handled it differently... i should have taken a deep breath before i went off half-cocked... either way, GO BUCKS!
and let's go rustle us some Longhorn!!!

Texas Kickoff Coverage (Don't know if it is different from last year): The coverage didn't look great, but I think we'll still be kicking off to yall. They had Huff on the kickoff team, and are using him to prevent long returns. He jogs down with the kicker and should be making tackles between the 20 and 35.

Seems like a fair plan. More returns getting out to the 20-30 but fewer to midfield...I'll take that.

OSU RBs: Looks like Pittman had a pretty good game, Schnittker did alright assuming he's the short yardage guy, Wells probably below expectations, and no touches for Haw (surprising or not?).

Fair assessment?

I lied. A lot of people are quick to point out that TS did not look very sharp in his other games, other than UM.

His Iowa game performance was pretty good, in the time he was in there.

Indiana, I think was his first start, nothing special.

PSU limited role due to the wind and the fact we didn't need too much out of our offense.

MSU, TS played decent, but did lead a comeback.

Purdue, in the first half he played bad, but in the second half he played decent. Three interceptions against Purdue, two were receivers fault. The fumble against Purdue was both he and Pittman's fault.

Michigan, was one of the best performances ever by an OSU qb.

Believe it or not, the offense did not truly get changed until the second half of the Purdue game. The transition was not complete until UM.

Also, the offense that was out there against Miami was even spread more than it was against Michigan. I can also argue that, in the offseason, the offense could learn the spread better than throwing it together for the Michigan game. Couple that with the o-line, receivers, and qbs improving in the off season, and what you have is a deadly attack.

Zwick played well, could Smith do much of the same?

Zwick hit 6 different receivers, 4 of them had 5 catches apiece

Not to split hairs, but I thought Zwick had 17 completions? If I'm wrong, I've been wrong in a lot of posts. But let's assume I'm right. 4 receivers x 5 catches = 20 completions. Add 1 for each of the other 2 receivers = 22. Your stats must include Boeckman's completions.

But I agree that Zwick wasn't necessarily locking in on a target. I've often been afraid of him doing that - going back to last year. And there were times yesterday where he'd fade back, looking at Holmes, stand in the pocket, always looking at Holmes, then throw to Holmes. Maybe you're right, in that he saw something before the play and knew he'd be open. I don't believe, though, that Zwick would stare at Holmes, and throw to Holmes if he isn't open. But I guess we'll just have to see......

All except for Wells and Haw. Wells looked fine. Not sure what would be expected from a true freshman, especially considering his size. I was impressed with his blitz pick up. Haw had a little off field trouble this summer and his lack of PT in the opener could have been a result of that, and the fact the three guys in front of him looked good this summer. Not a big surprise he didn't get any playing time in the opener.

Pittman was solid... he's a keeper... he had a long run called back when Holmes got nabbed for holding downfield... i think he was surprised to see Tony bust it, and just instinctively grabbed a handful of jersey...

Schnittker will be good in short yardage situations... he runs hard...

i think the jury is still out on Wells... he was in there with the backups, but his first run (which i still think was a TD) was a thing of beauty... it was a counter, and his cutback was so sharp it was sick... and he is REALLY fast... he's gonna get some major pub in the near future... Grad21's comment pretty much summed it up... i'll go find it...

edit: found it:

Holy shit, MoW will be GREAT. Did you see those feet??
to me, that quote speaks volumes, given Grad21's knowledge of the game, and the general level-headedness of his posts... he was obviously pretty excited...

Haw didn't see the field... call it carry-over for that Doob incident...

nice to see Shaun Lane get the call a time or two... it shows that hard work pays off...

Realistic Expectations - tOSU vs Texass

:osu: I have read alot of the smack on both sites (humor and angst abounded and was fun to read) and would like to read what everyone's realistic expectations are of the game. I believe the crowd will be a factor. I also believe strongly the line play will decide the game. As a long-time OSU fan, my heart says the Bucks! As for everyone else, bring it on! GO BUCKS! :gobucks3:

Our Fourth Quarterback

Guys, let's not forget about our other QB: Teddy Ginn!!!

And the way opposing teams swarm around him when he has the ball, wouldn't that be the perfect sort of "play action"? Teddy sweeps, Cuts back..... no wait!!! He's lofting it into the end zone to a wide open... TROY SMITH!!! OMG!!!

....or something like that.

Good game, JZ and TB. I just think that if you watch tape of the Zwick and Smith, you would realize how much faster Smith is than Zwick. Both with his feet and with his hands. And finally, I thought Zwick started to tire out on Saturday. Anyone else see that??

Go Bucks! Just Win, Baby!!!

Ginn will get about 20 touches this game (opposed to 11 against Miami) and we will spread the ball out the same way we did last week. I'm sure Tressel will be unveiling different spread formations this week and we wont be calling off the dogs early or holding back at all.
