everyone just think back to the play against michigan, he dropped back and both of scums defensive ends had him dead to rights, he then spun free and broke a tackle and took off with it for a huge gain, after he got tackled out of bounds he was the first one up and looked fine, while the player that tackled him was still on the ground in pain. that is what zwick cant bring to this offense, and thats why smith should be the number one quarterback, but he might be rusty which is why zwick should play at first.
Smith's performance against Michigan was phenomenal. In every facet. I sure as hell have no desire to deny that (far from it), and I don't think anyone else does, either. As I suggested above, if Smith plays at anything remotely approximating that level week-in and week-out, he should start working on his Heisman acceptance speech right now. There's a little bit of selective memory going on here though. Smith had four fairly mundane games prior to Michigan, and Zwick has looked pretty darn good at times. I would argue that Zwick's last two games were better than any of Smith's non-Michigan games. Again, I'm not necessarily suggesting that Zwick is the better player, and I think that Smith very well may be, but suggesting that it's a total no-brainer as to who's the better man for the job is not entirely objective, in my view.

I dont see people "putting down Zwick". I see people voicing their opinions
These two things are not mutually exclusive.

anyone who dons the Scarlet and Gray is part of the team, and part of the Buckeye Family... i don't think any of you would boo your little brother, and it's bullshit to boo any member of this team...
If my son does poor in school I shouldn't criticize him! If I screw up at work I shouldn't be reprimanded? Give me a break, if a major college football player can't handle a few boos, he is in a lot of trouble. OSU does not start 22 Hall-of-famers and they would be the first to tell you they deserve some criticism. Booing a college players poor performance is ok, but calling them names, throwing things, etc. is wrong.

You do not, ever, boo your own team.
These are kids, out there giving it their all to win football games for tOSU.
If you honestly think that booing is OK, I feel very, very sorry for you.
Personally, I would ban your ass as its obvious someone with that kind of mindset is a fool.

True enough, and especially so in an intra-squad scrimmage. That was just horseshit.

I'm not sure that either of these is a good analogy for the situation at hand, but criticism comes in a lot of different flavors. Sticking with your analogy, if your son does fairly well in school, but not quite as well as you'd hoped, are you going to magnify his failures and diminish his successes? Do you want to work for a boss who takes that approach with you?

What Iwas trying to say just because you play football at OSU does not make you a GOD,ne.Clarett,Irizarryet.al..I have never booed an OSU player at a game and never will but they are not perfect and just because someone says JZ throws wobbly passes and isnt all-world does not make them less of a fan. This place here is for opinions you can agree or disagree. It is not life or death and I won't lose sleep if you disagree with me. I would never name call here or call someone an idiot but that's just me. Go Bucks!

Dude, relax for a second. Calling people out is one thing, but you stepped over the line. I have never said he didn't play good or shouldn't start. I don't know who the best person for the job is, and neither does anyone else, until everything plays out.

I try to point out some things that really were a big key to our victory, such as play calling, and that makes me anti-Zwick? I am skeptical after one solid game about JZ and that makes me anti-Zwick? I make observations like we all do, and I post what I see. I think some people are getting the wrong idea about my posts. I am sorry I saw it differently from all that choose to accuse.

I root for the team just as all of us do. All I have done is debate who is best for the team. If I have come across as being anti-Zwick, I apologize.

I see Troy Smith as our starter but the gap is nowhere near where some see it. Believe it or not, Troy Smith is not going to duplicate his Michigan performance every week. If he does, he'll finish with 1500 yards rushing, 3000 yards passing and over 30 touchdowns. They might as well send the Heisman to Columbus tomorrow. That's not saying he won't play well, but he's been resting on those scUM laurels for almost 10 months and it appears he's grown to legendary status during that time. Conversely, some people can't get past the Iowa game whenever they see Zwick - the worst game of his life, and a pretty bad one for the entire team.

I hope we beat Texas, and I don't care who plays QB so long as we do it.

Just to clarify, OBF, my comment on booing at the spring game was in response to someone else's post, and was not directed at you. As to the question of insulating players from any criticism of their play, I don't think anyone here is suggesting anything of the kind. I know I'm not. Rather, I think the point that some here are taking issue with is that there seems to be an occassional tendency to turn the pro-Smith argument into an anti-Zwick argument. I will definitely agree with you when you point out areas where Smith's abilities are greater than Zwick's. Personally, I think there are some areas where Zwick may be stronger. But regardless of how you rate the two guys relative to one another (and I've got a higher opinion of Zwick than some of you do), he's a pretty damn good quarterback, he's done everything that's been asked of him without complaint, and start or not, he deserves better than he's gotten at times.

Many of you keep talking about Smith and his dual threat. But you seem to forget....that Texas has been practicing against Young for the past 3 yrs. So that running threat is basically taken away as they will be prepared, and prepared without putting in that extra time many teams would have to do.
Secondly....look who beat Texas and put points on the board against them last year.....Okl. with a drop back QB (White) and Mich scored points with a drop back QB (Henne).
Zwick has played two games in the spread offense, and completed well over 60% of his passes, with over 30 completions.
You talk about his short passes like they are easy....its called reading the defense at the line of scrimmage and making the correct decision, which he did very well. He was taking what the defense was giving. I am sure he could have taken a couple chances downfield, but give him credit for being disciplined to take what was there.
Watch Brian Brohm today from UL...highly touted, QB....well, all he did was throw short passes also. Yet I don't hear people taking away his credit for doing that the system asked you to do.
Bottom line is this...Zwick has played the past two games very well. The offense has scored over 30pts each game. And don't give me the "they didn't play anyone". Smith only played against two winning teams last year and went 1-1, yet everyone proclaims in awesome, only because of his Mich performance. Which was great btw.
OSU has two capable QB's. I think Zwick has earned the start, for his play and for keeping his nose clean. Depending on how the game goes vs Texas early......will depend on when and how much Smith plays. If Zwick struggles and Smith comes in and plays well....well then he will probably take over, which is fine. If Zwick comes in and guides the offense to early scores.....it would be hard to disrupt that IMO. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. But what about this one.....what if Zwick struggles, Smith comes in and he struggles....then what??

Zwick

Does it bother anyone else that Zwick can;t throw a spiral. I mean for a drop back passer, you think that he could throw a ball with a tight spiral on it. The majority of his passes look like a bad punt. His touchdown to Holmes was an ugly looking pass. He was effective Saturday. but it concerns me that his passing is not sharp. It results in under thrown balls that get picked off.
