Every time I hear Dorsey's name I can't help but laugh. I was watching the 49ers once last year and the announcers were just ragging on him left and right saying how he was just totally unfit for the NFL and how his arm was terrible and his release was way too slow...I was rofl

I know its the NFL vs what, a simple old National Championship game, but I still believe Dorsey never quite got his swagger back after the Buckeyes harassed him all that night in AZ. Perhaps the experience of facing so many future Pros was simply too much... plus his supporting cast in SF is below par (for the NFL).

Ah well - thread hijack is over for now.

i dont see it the same way, i believe he was a 6 or 7 round pick. things arent really expected of him, even though he played great in college. look at jason white, he had amazing numbers in college and he went undrafted and is now retiring.

Yeah - fair points about expectations. As for White though he was damaged goods coming out of Oklahoma - a gamer for sure, but his injury history alone left hiom running on borrowed time in college, let alone the pros.

i think there was more talent in Miami than Dorsey had around him in SF... what were there? NINE first rounders?
Yep indeed, 9 was the number. If they had all gone to the Niners perhaps he'd feel right at home.

Ken Dorsey was 38-1 as a starter when we beat Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.
All the bucks from that team in the Fiesta Bowl will be playing in 2 weeks as well.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- On a team stocked with 18 returning starters, it's perhaps surprising that six-ranked Ohio State -- with a glittering tradition of great tailbacks -- will go with a largely untested player at one of football's most critical positions.

The preseason football magazines point out that the Buckeyes have experience at almost every spot in the lineup -- save one. They question whether a group of unknowns can carry the load.

"That's a good feeling. That means there's not much attention on you," said Antonio Pittman, expected to be on the field for the opening snap of the Buckeyes' opener a week from Saturday against Miami (Ohio).

"And when we come out the first games and we're rushing for good yardage, then it's an eye-opener," he said.

Pittman, a sophomore who was second on the team with 381 yards a year ago, gets the edge over freshmen Erik Haw and Maurice Wells, and part-time fullback Brandon Schnittker. Don't be surprised if all see action, at least until one of them breaks away from the crush to take over the position.

A year ago, the Buckeyes were led in rushing by the since-graduated Lydell Ross, who picked up a meager 475 yards -- the fewest by Ohio State's top rusher since Vince Workman had 470 in 1987.

"We've got something to prove, basically," said Haw, who redshirted last year. "All the magazines, they talk this and they talk that, but when it comes down to it, you just basically have to get the job done."

In an 8-4 season a year ago, the Buckeyes ran up big rushing numbers on lesser teams but struggled to advance the ball on the ground against others.

Ross and Co. averaged 172 yards, more than a rushing TD a game and 4.3 yards in the wins. In the losses, they mustered 92 yards a game, scored twice and averaged 3.0 yards a carry.

Even more troubling, Ohio State's 1,745 net yards marked the second year in a row the Buckeyes had not gained more than 1,800 in a season -- the first time that's happened in 16 years.

Only four times since 1966 have they failed to top the 1,800-yard mark for a season. As recently as the 2002 national championship year, the Buckeyes rang up almost 900 yards more than that.

Subtract Ross from last year's dismal stats and it appears the Buckeyes might have to rely on Ted Ginn Jr. and their air attack even more than they did a year ago. But coach Jim Tressel believes things have changed for the better at tailback.

"Antonio Pittman had an excellent spring and he's followed it up thus far with a very good fall," Tressel said. "Erik Haw looks a little bit better right now than he did in the spring; maybe he's letting loose a little bit, maybe he was a little nervous. Maurice Wells is looking great."

Pittman (5-foot-11, 195 pounds), Haw (6-1, 212), Wells (5-10, 185) and Schnittker (6-2, 250) offer a range of speed, cutting ability and size. Pittman is the most versatile, Haw is most effective between the tackles, Wells reminds some of mercurial former Florida State star Warrick Dunn, and Schnittker is the bruiser of the group.

"We'll all get a shot this year," said Wells, who gained 6,000 yards as a Florida high school player.

I think some major questions have been answered by the Buckeyes. I feel alot better about special teams, offense, and defense. Basically I have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the 2005 Buckeyes.

Special Teams

Josh Huston made 8-11 kicks in practice and our backup kicker is nailing 55 yarders theres room for optimism. Ashton Youboty took a kickoff to the house in a practice. Tim Schaeffer blocked a kick(one of Hustons misses). Coverage units and blocking units are said to be great. Steve Helwagen in a chat said Trappasso is booming the ball and will be more than serviceable. I think punter, holder, long-snapper, and PK have been pretty much answered.

Offense

All reports say that the OL and RB's have looked great. I think we are better off than most outsiders believe. Hamby looked great catching the ball when ESPN showed our practice. Spielman said Troy looked great in practice. If we run the spread we will be very good on offense.

Defense

Lane moving to RB tells me Amos and Jenkins are awesome. Amos had an INT when ESPN showed our practice. IMO the boundry corner is answered and depth is not a concern. O'neal will be our Nickleback. I think our DB's will exceed expectation. Adding Ginn in the mix in special situation as a CB adds even more depth and talent. Barrow and Wilson are in the 2-deep since Gholston went down. If we get a pass rush we will have a top 5 defense.

All things considered I'd say pass rush/d-line play and consistency at QB are my only concerns. I feel alot better about everything else.

Do you have a analogy comprehension problem? The point is that an opponent QB's previous record means shit when it comes to playing us in a huge night time game.

OSU Student Needed for Ticket switch

I am a student at UT and have an OSU student ticket for the game. I bought two tickets on e-bay (one is a student and one is a spouse ticket). I was told that the spouse ticket does not need a student ID, but the student ticket does. What I am proposing is that an OSU student w/ a General admission ticket meet me at a particular gate at a time before the game to switch tickets just to get in the gate. After inside, obviously...switch back. If there are two students (one male, one female) with gen adm tickets, we'll switch both just to be safe. Pretty much just want to ensure we get in the gate. Let me know if you're willing to help out. Obviously since i spent so much on the tickets, i'd like someone to just volunteer, but if need be...we can buy you a beer or something. Let me know. Ryan 512 569 0740 or e mail me at [email protected]. I appreciate it a ton...thanks
