in 2000 when he gave his acceptance speach from austin i had snipers on the roof of my dorm. Generally speaking though the security is not as tight as you might expect.

I don't know about Texas, but at Ohio State they have snipers on the rooftops of surrounding buildings for EVERY football game. You can see them on top of the arena, on top of the student rec center SE of the stadium, on top of the dorm to the SW of the stadium.

i havent been keeping up on this thread, so i dont know if this was posted previously, but i found a nice stats breakdown on BN of all places pertaining to Young's production last year.

He threw 12 TD's on the season, but 8 of them were in the first 4 games against Rice, Baylor, North Texas and Arkansas. Over the next 10 games, he averaged 2.8 points put on the board through the air per game. Against Top 25 defenses, he had 0 TD's, 2 INT's and a 36.4 QB Rating!

He rushed for 14 TD's on the season as well, but 8 of them were against Michigan who gave up over 1000 rushing yards on their last 4 games and Texas Tech who was 77th in rush defense. On the other 10 games, he averaged 4.2 points put on the board running per game.

Against Top 25 defenses, he's accounted for 106 total yards per game and a grand total of 3.5 points per game.
as a note, osu was 19th in scoring defense, and 30th in total defense. however, if you simply take away the gimmie TD that osu's 2nd and 3rd stringers gave up to okie state in the bowl game, osu was 25th.

I don't know about home games, but they definitely have snipers at the cotton bowl for the Texas vs Oklahoma every year. To be honest I don't understand the point of them, what would it take for a sniper to shoot at the football game?

That would be nice if you took away every "gimmie" TD that was scored on every team durring the year and you still turned out 25, until you do that...stick with the 30th.

all i was doing was avoiding the obvious course this was going to take. the immediate reply would be that osu finished 30th in total defense. i simply illustrated how irrelevant those 5 spots were in actuality in attempt to avoid 15 posts on the matter.

if you would like to dispute the liklihood of osu finishing in the top 25 in total defense this coming season then fine.

the bottom line is that VY didn't fare well against top notch defenses this past season. OSU is going to be a top notch defense this year.

Merely a point to ponder.

Oh c'mon. You're taking all the fun out of those 15 posts! What else am I suppose to do today at work? You don't want me to actually work now do you?

i never said that osu could end up a top 25 defense. I just can't stand when people try to omit parts of seasons to make themselves look better. Last year ya'll had the #30 defense.

as for VY not doing well agianst top defenses, while it is true we did beat all of those defenses(except the one we don't mention). and whether you choose to count it or not um did alow less than 100 yds/gm rushing last year. obviously vy exploited there most glaring weakness but i think it still has to count.

They got destroyed by teams that knew how to run the ball. They gave up 397 yards to Michigan State (mobile QB). They gave up 205 yards rushing to OSU. Minnesota gained 190 on them. Northwestern also put up 190 on them. And then of course Texas put up 264.

The rest of the schedule were mediocre rushing teams: Miami (OH), ND, SDSU, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue.

Okay lets get back on the subject, the game.I cant wait for this game i sell programs and im guessing ill make alot of money this game. Our fans will be rockin,it will be a night game and our defense will be ready. The main thing we need to do is contain the Qb i forget his name but he is pretty mobile but we have the speed to catch him we just cant let him bust the big ones. All in all it will be a good game. Go Bucks!

At home last season, y'all didn't do so well either when teams were running the ball well. The formula may not be the same for this coming season but last season the formula stood: Run well against Ohio State at home and you'll give them fits. Texas is going to be a good running team next season, likely much better than any you saw last season. Right now I feel more comfortable playing y'all as a run dominated offense rather than if we primarily relied on passing.

Uh, no one ran the ball "well" against us at home last year:

Cincinnati: 26-76 (2.9)
Marshall: 44-150 (3.4)
Wisconsin: 48-184 (3.8)
Indiana: 36-53 (1.5)
Penn State: 50-177 (3.5)
Michigan: 22-71 (3.2)

Total: 226-711 (3.1)
Per Game: 38-119 (3.1)

Texas will be hurting if they rush for only 120 yards or so.

"Texas will be hurting if they rush for only 120 yards or so."

Truer (sp?) words were never spoken. I will be suprised though if texas only gets 120. Even if Vince only gets 40-60 thats not many yards for the rest of the team to account for. Despite the hype, our rb's typically out rush vy. add in RT and 120 yrds should not be a problem. However, if we do end up in that area then it is a buckeye victory almost certainly.

The previous discussion has given me an opportunity to throw out one of my favorite statistics:

Under Mack Brown, UT is 52-0 (I think that's the number) when they outrush their opponent. Meaning they are 18-19 when they do not.

If I posted this before, I apologize.

While it shouldn't come as a surprise to see a team win most of the time when they outrush their opponents, 52-0 is ridiculous. This stat IMO is right up there with tOSU's record at home against OOC teams in the last 2 decades.
