Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

Flask: Misdirection would be a bad idea.

Misdirections in theory against a fast agressive defense would make sense in most cases but in my opinion I think would be very big mistake against OSU.

1. Kanasa State and Okie State tried that. OSU sideline to sideline is incredibly
fast the wash of pursuit is incredible.

2. OSU DE's and OLB's are very disciplined. OSU has seen this time and again since well really "96's " Silver Bullets.

3. I don't think that misdirection is really what Texas is know for or good at.
I don't watch Texas football week in and out but seems to me Texas
is about power and a good play making qb that takes advantage of
blitzing defense's mistakes. I'm not talking about just Michigan either.

Texas's best shot is the short passing game. Texas needs to get bad
matchups against our zone packages use the TE's and Rb's. The Wr's have
to be willing to take some big shots from Salley and Whinter. The sucess
would then open up some running but really after I had some sucess
against the Bucks with that I would really spread out the defense and have
Vy look for some holes and invite the OSU defense to blitz hope VY can
break some big plays. Look at the Miami 2002 game in the second half
they made the best adjustments after they realized that OSU speed
defense was more than they could handle they did what I described some
what. The half time adjustments in this game may be the key and there
is no one better at that then Tress.

I think it is. Most don't (those that don't have good taste). But it does have a very loyal following. It's one of those love it or hate it beers.

A much larger number would point to the trendy swill known as Shiner Bock as the true beer of Texas. I respectfully disagree.

You should DEFINITELY check out the Brewery District when you swing by C-Bus. My brother, ever the entrepreneur, and some of his friends were toying with the idea of branding and selling an OSU-themed beer called Buckeye Brü, which would be sold exclusively in scarlet and grey colored kegs, and distributed by local breweries. But political heat from our wonderful school president made them reconsider. He already had two companies he was starting up, and another one that had to deal with Holbrook's nazi-like stranglehold over OSU's corporate identiy was too much effort.

Lone Star beer calls itself the "National Beer of Texas". I happen to agree with EH on this one. Lonestar is a beer that is reminicant of pearl(another local favorite that has seemingly lost market share) It is not a "wonderfull" beer if you are the type of beer nazi that is looking for bold flavors and yada yada yada(can you yada yada beer?) Lone Star is a truely american beer in the mold of budwiser or Coors. Im sure that it would get scoffed at around the world, but its simple, easy to drink, and is a great complement to any trip to the river. Shiner is a great beer but it just isnt quite Lone Star yet.

i will say this for shiner though, it has become so sucessfull in texas that the busch brewing company created ziegenbock to try and win back the part of the market that they were losing to a "small time local brewery" Not to bad for a micro.

Buckeye Bill and BukI- After looking at my prediction again, I'll have to say my confidence has been replaced by a slight headache. Reality has set in. I liked it better when I knew we'd win by 11 touchdowns.


I was being too hard on Shiner. Good for them. I like seeing local companies do well.

Last year, our offensive philosophy was pretty simple . . . run Benson between the tackles a lot, fake to Benson w/ Young keeping it to the outside, fake to Benson and roll Young out on a bootleg pass/run, fake to Benson and roll Young out and hand off to Ramonce Taylor on the reverse. Those are the misdirection plays I was speaking of. Otherwise it was put Young in the shotgun to pass, but have him take off if nothing was wide open, or have him run a designed draw. Supposedly this spring they have been working to add more misdirection-type plays because of the speed we have (and because we don't have a back like Benson that can pound it up the middle 25 times).

That worries me, because those are the passes that Young struggles the most with. He can throw a nice rainbow deep ball, and last year he improved to where he could hit a guy standing still in a zone soft spot, but he has struggled mightily at hitting receivers in stride on slants, etc.

I would love to see Ohio State set the tone early with a deep pass to Holmes. Maybe first play of the game. Send Holmes deep, put Ginn in some short route behind Holmes, and Hall, Gonzo, or a Tight End in a route to the other side of the field. If Holmes is covered, look for Ginn short to make a big play. If they're both covered, someone has to be open on the other side of the field.

Ohio State began a game against Michigan State in the late '80's with a deep pass for a touchdown. First play. It ROCKED! Tell Tressel to try that once.

ok so after reading the spring tailgate thread i have a few questions. do people tailgate on campus for the season games? If so, will we need to have cups for beer? Are they going to be strict on beer/whisky? If there are underage people(I dont plan on it but it is a possibility) are they at risk? those are the thoughts on my mind right now, sure i will come up with more
