Hey Mobyhorn, I was at the Mizzou game in '79 also. Road trip senior yr. and my compadres and I made the front page of the Columbia Sunday paper, still have it framed. Anyway was directed over here by a Buckeye fan on hornfans and have enjoyed the discussions so thought I'd jump in with my two cents worth on how we match up.
(I've got tickets and can't wait to come up for hopefully a classic game). Went to the Alamo Bowl and watched OSU beat up on okie lite. You guys have a very impressive team but I expected that. After all I grew up watching some of the greats like Gradishar, Griffith, Tom ? (AllAmerican linebacker in late 70's), etc... Scariest part of your team is linebackers. All look very large and quick and most likely the best group in the nation. Ginn was simply amazing and fortunately just doesn't get the number of touches as VY. Rest of team looked solid across the board and thank goodness that kicker is gone.
Re: Texas; there seems to be a lot of misconceptions around the country
1. VY can't pass. Yet he completed 60% which is the best ever for a TX qb over a two yr. period
2. No receivers/rb's. Actually we're loaded at both just very young. The last 3 yrs. we got the #1 rated rb in TX. same for rec. Hopefully this past yr. was our learning curve. Defense should be the best since the '83 team.
Suffice it to say, that both teams get the best high school players from two of the best high school football states so should match up well. I'd give TX edge in qb, o-line, d-line; OSU edge in rec, lb and a wash at rb and secondary. Overall edge to OSU as home team but wouldn't be suprised if we win. If you can rattle us into some early stupid mistakes or our OC plays not to lose (ou) then it could get ugly, otherwise should be close.

Maybe you have a RB who is going to really step it up. Maybe one of our QB's does likewise. You got the #1 rated RB in texas the last 3 years? Are you talking about coming out of highschool??? If so...wasn't Adrian Peterson from Texas? He looks pretty decent at Oklahoma these days.

Attention paid...again. Sorry bro, but you are not the first to "warn" us of someone's prowess and what trouble we were about to encounter....
My advice is, be careful what you wish for...yup #47 is AJ Hawk (4.46 40 at 240+ at Pro Day) and #42 is Bobby Carpenter (4.53 at 250+)...#51 is Anthony Schlegel, whom I'm sure you Texans are familiar with. Throw in Mike D'Andrea, Marcus Freeman, and a few other freakishly fast monsters...and I believe it is VY who better be paying attention for if that head is not on a swivel...it could end up rolling on the grass.

Could'a, Should'a, Would'a
While we're all rattling spears at one another, I thought about former players who had the potential to be stars but didn't make it. I'm talking about those in college, not those who completed their college careers...those who would have made a difference but did not finish. Several Horns come to mind:
Edwin Simmons: What a stud tailback, big and fast, a stand up runner like Eric Dickerson. After a season or so he vanished, having been found to be running naked through residential back yards.
Butch Hadnot: Another stud power back. Had a great one season run, but cratered.
Adam Dunn: Highly touted QB, who opted for pro baseball with Cincy...positive choice for him.
Shea Morenz: Another highly touted QB, who opted for pro baseball. Never really made it in the bigs.
Who were some Buckeyes that you would have liked to have seen succeed in football but did not for various reasons?

Drew Carter--we saw glimpses of brilliance in between injuries
Thomas Matthews--stuck behind some of the best LBs in tOSU history
Bam Childress--had all the makings of a great one, but couldn't put it all together
Steve Bellisari--Could have been an incredible safety...unfortunately, he played QB
Mike D'Andrea--Maybe premature, but Mike D needs a stellar season to live up to his hype
