Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

Are there any tasty dishes to be made from Buckeyes?

Hmmm...possibly accompanied by some "nice fava beans and a good chianti." (Thank you, Hannibal Lecter.)

I do recall a Texas game with Mizzou--1979, Columbia, Missouri. Both teams were ranked in the top five. Mizzou had a stud QB and, oh yes, that tight end whose son is now with the Cleveland Browns. Living in Indianapolis at the time (froze my fanny up there for five plus years), I drove over to the game.

Final: Texas 21 Mizzou 0. Afterwards I escaped from a nearby sports bar with my hundreds of winnings from confident wagerers.

Now, I hope that these games are going to go down to the wire, whichever way they go, and that there is plenty of turf eating to go around.

Sorry, Moby, but Buckeyes are poisonous (as the Longhorns will find out on Sep 10th).
Indeed, buckeye nuts contain trace amounts of cyanide (I think). The more you eat, the more poison builds up in your blood, and the quicker you die! Cute, right?

I don't know if this story is true, but a while back Michigan fans made peanut butter with buckeyes so that they could claim that, indeed, they were eating buckeyes for breakfast. But then there was a h of deaths related to cyanide poisoning...serves 'em right, heheh.

Ah, well...

I suppose that down here we're too ignorant to realize it--that we shall "bask in the awesomeness of your turbulence." ("A Knight's Tale")

Please continue to convince yourselves that Vince can't throw and that we have no proven running backs, that Ginn is faster than "a three-legged chicken" (a local bit of humor: "How do they taste? Don't know...never caught one."), that Mack can't win the big one and that our OC is a drooling troll.
Please do that.

It might come to pass.

Then again, it might not.

...........and you keep telling yourself that homefield don't mean a thing, and that OSU won't have an answer for Vince Young.

It goes both ways man. This should be a great game and Texas is a good team so it should be fun nonetheless. However I highly doubt our buckeyes will take VY's passing ability lightly just like I hope your Longhorns don't ignore our speed at reciever.

Reality

I think that very few down here would believe that a homefield fails to provide the home team a real advantage.

What I am hoping for is that both teams play to their best and that the game will be a real nail biter. Since games like these are rare, I hope the result provides a classic outcome. These games are too infrequent. There should be more of them.

Nor should we forget that Brown has managed to re-load at TB every time he's had to.

Respect is where great series between teams begins -- both between fans and one team to the other.

Honestly, with the class our Lone Star crowd are showing in the (long) lead up to this game they have earned my respect, I wouldn't mind in the slightest if tOSU played 'em every year.

Think about it....

Would you rather go to games where the opposition was putrid? Could you force yourself to sit through a 77-0 punking of Dumpster Tech? A root canal would be more entertaining. Think about how many of these awful games exist.

I realize these schedules are made up way in advance, but really: our first game is with Louisiana Lafayette. Now some genius could have at least scheduled Tulane in an away game in the Big Easy. As it is you are required to pony up fifty bucks to watch this drivel. Think about how much territorial angst and fun you are having right now talking about a game that is five months off.

It's a marketer's dream.

I Keep hearing rumors that Texas will only be allowed 5,000 tickets, surely that cain't be right. It was reported that 20,000 Texans were at the Rose Bowl. One news paper said that a third of the people at the Rose Bowl were from Texas. That may be an exageration. There will be 5,000 Texans that will jog to Cbus besides the ones that drive and fly. Can someone in the know straighten me out.

5,000 is what all visiting schools get in Ohio Stadium. If any of your marching band comes, they will take their tickets from this allotment as well.

This is bottom line is going to be a huge game for both teams.... Who ever should win will do big things in 05' thats for sure. Yeah the opposing team is only alotted 5,000 so fill those up and hope to get other tickets scattered through the stadium. However, probably wouldn't recommend sitting near a bunch of drunk college OSU kids....

If i am not mistaken the only one larger is the cal system.
The largest "system" is SUNY (State University of New York), but that's a collection of many campuses, all 10K or less. To me, campus size (as opposed to "system" size) is the real criterion for biggest University.

I know several have already answered this to the effect of "yes, 5000 is right", and also "why would you compare a bowl game to a road game". Both are correct, of course. However, even though this is a huge game, given the fact that it's played before the autumn quarter starts (and students show up for school), if you show up in Columbus with some cash in your pocket, you will definitely be able to get a ticket on game day. I know it seems risky for such a long trip, but there'll be scalpers out there selling tix for sure.

nitpick alert.

University at Buffalo and Buffalo State (both SUNY) are over 10k. i think SUNY stony brook is about 20k.

You'd better be right, else I'm gonna ding yer ass! :wink2:

I've already got my hotel reservations and will book my flight to C-Bus within the next few weeks...all I'll need is a ticket. Actually, I'll need three tickets (Buckeye68 and his wife are coming down for the game). I think hawaiianbuckeye is gonna score sideline access...the fucker.
