speaking of goal posts... how much do you suppose a piece of the goalpost from the '68 scUM game, engraved w/ date, score, and Woody's sig, by Woody himself is worth... take into account that there were only three such pieces to start with, and Woody owned one of them...

also, consider the fact that nowadays the goalposts literally cannot be torn down...

How big is it? My bid is $150. I'd be VERY surprised if that's your best bid, though. That just happens to be what I can afford.

Where's everyone at? I need a FIX! There are only 80 days until September 10th, why has this thread slown (I think I just made this word up) down? :)

I'll field a question. Obviously between the boards we've talked and discussed how the teams match up time and time again.

Now, I certainly don't like to think in these terms, but I'm curious. In your opinion, whom has a better shot at rebounding from a loss.

If Texas loses, and still wins out + beats Oklahoma, how do they fare on the year? BCS Bid? Outside/Inside shot at the Rose Bowl?

Same for an Ohio State loss, + winning out (including scUM.)

Obviously neither side wants to lose, but in the grand scheme of things, what side does a loss hurt more?

I think both teams would be in pretty decent shape BCS wise if they run the table, after having lost this game. It is very early, and non-conference. OSU would have still beaten Iowa, scUM, and a tough conference schedule, and Texas would have still beaten Oklahoma and a pretty tough conference schedule. 1 loss will look good at the end of the season, assuming there aren't many no-loss or other 1-loss teams. In short, with the BCS, you will probably still get screwed one way or another. But one of these 2 might be OK. Let's just hope it's Texas worrying about that.

texas has shown (over the last 5 years) that not only can they rebound from a loss but that they usually come back more agressive and just a flat out better team. I don't know who would be better or worse after a lose but i will be confident that texas will be ok. Our problem over the last 5 years is that we feel the need to go into the cotton bowl with a conservitive game plan and "win it in the 4th quarter" Greg davis is the only man i know that would seemingly trade a ten point lead for a 3 point defecite in the 4th quarter. He sees coaches that win with defense and sp (maybe you know of one) and thinks thats what texas has to be. WELL GUESS WHAT GREGO! THAT HASNT BEEN OUT STYLE FOR A LONG TIME NOW. Over the past 5 years we have had as much or more offensive tallent than any team in the country thats including the teams in south central and norman, even baton rouge and columbus. There is no reason what so ever that we should not have been tryin' to hang a half a hundered on every team we play. For some reason though we don't get that mentality until we lose a game.

wow i really got myself worked up there... to answer your question though, i think that both teams have more "important" games this year and both will have a great shot at doing well even after a loss

I think that Texas would be less damaged by the loss, in terms of still having a chance at the Rose Bowl. If they lose, it will be a road loss at night in the 'Shoe, which can easily be forgiven by the pollsters. If they break their streak in the Red River Shootout, they'll be right back in the top 5. As long as the loss to tOSU is no more than 10 points, at the end of the year, a 1-loss Texas team would probably be ranked ahead of any Big-10 team that loses a conference game, since those occur later in the season.

If tOSU loses, it will be a home loss, and the national media will say that the Big-10 isn't all that good since Texas just knocked off TSUN and tOSU almost back-to-back, blah-blah-blah. It would be very difficult for us to be ranked ahead of the RRS winner later in the year; Texas and Oklahoma might each have to lose a game other than the one in Dallas in order for a tOSU team that lost to Texas to go around the winner of the RRS.

that could very well be true. Also though the headlines every where read THE BIG 10 IS BACK and rightfully so. The moment any big 12 team loses a big game the national media will be down our throats. Fair or not, ou's showing in the orange bowl has the big 12 looking from the back seet in. Make no mistake if usc, a big 12 team and a sec team all end up with the same record again, the big 12 will be the odd man out. because of that i think that it will be hard for any big 12 team to make the rose without going undefeated.

As long as Texas promises to win out after we beat them, I'll be happy
I think you hit the nail on the head there. After we spank Texas:biggrin: , their best chance for a Rose Bowl berth is for us to win out so we can spank them again:biggrin: . The most important factor for Texas' bowl bid after losing to us will be our record. When Texas finishes with one loss- to the undefeated, #1 OSU Buckeyes, that will go a long way to a re-spanking in Pasadena. If something incredible happens and we lose 4 games, and Texas finishes with just a loss to us, it won't look so good for them.

As much as I'm dying for an USC/OSU matchup in the Rose Bowl (traditional matchup in the Rose Bowl, for the Title, get to shut their fans and the media up) somethings telling me USC is going to drop one or two along the way, very similar to Miami in 2003. Somewhat of an unforeseen breakdown.

Having said this, it opens the door for some other possibilities. Texas, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee all jump at me as matchups. I think they each win their respective conference, and with USC dropping one or two they'll still win the Pac-1, but will be out of contention. The Big Least offers no 'strong' champion and I dont see ND making a NC run for the independents. With the Big 10 as strong as it is, I don't know logistically if a big 10 v. big 10 matchup is possible.

So, point in case, a texas rematch isn't too much of a stretch.

Tickets

Hey guys,

For my birthday, all I asked for from my parents was tickets for me and my dad to go to OSU-Texas at the Shoe. If anyone could help me out with somewhere I could find decent tickets at a somewhat reasonable price, I'd greatly appreciate it. I know a few posters said it was cheaper to wait until game night and buy them from scalpers, but even though I told my dad they'd have plenty, he doesn't really want to take that risk. Thanks a lot!
