and there will be the obligatory "Guys relax, do you remember Nugent's first year" quotes.
So then Huston will get a 7th year? :p

its really funny to me that teams have almost programed responses to everything but at the time that they are made they honestly feel like the truth(every now and then they are right)
It is funny. But in either case the losing team will find more faults in their own team to explain how they could lose than accepting the other team played better that day. But in reality that is the most likely reason for the winner, that they are in fact the better team.

To be totally blunt, I absolutely expect us to win. This is with no disrespect to Texas. We have essentially the same team back that was firing on all cylinders, both offensively and defensively, at the end of last season. We're at home, at night, where we've been unbeatable. Our offense is as good as the Michigan offense that put up 37 on Texas on a neutral field. We have a faster defense than the Oklahoma one that throttled Young last season. Hawk and Carpenter have three years of experience playing against Heisman-caliber QBs. We're 28-3-1 all-time against Big 12 teams, including the last eight at home. I can see a loss at Texas next year, but not at home this year.

i dont know why you would say anything else. If texas wins it will be escaping with a victory. Allthough I firmly believe that Texas has a better team however this will be a very tough game for us to win. I understand your views and i think that it would be easy to point to ou and use that as a reason to say that texas sucks. I will tell you that there are many underlining factors about that game that have nothing to do with tallent though. Also while you might have a better defense than ou's i doubt that it will be all that much faster. your guys might get to the ball better but that does not really show speed but rather intellegence. last years ou defense could run with anyone in a straight line, it was that play recognition thing that gave them problems

I never said, nor implied, that. I simply said our defense matches up as well against your style of offense as well as Oklahoma's did.

ok i used the wrong word, make that overrated, or easily contained

I do not consider Texas' offense "over-rated" nor do I consider Vince Young "easily contained" (although I will confess to thinking that Young is indeed a tad bit over-rated). Our defense is almost custom-designed to stop the kind of offense Texas employs. Now, will they actually shut down, or sufficiently slow down, Young and Company? We'll find that out on the evening of September 10th, 2005.

this is going to be really fun when all of the freaks come out of the woodwork a week or two before the game. I can allready tell that people are starting to drink their coolaid and put on those orange glasses. Seems to me that if you have any legit questions about the other team they should be asked now, because in about 85 or so days this is going to be two groups of rabid fans oozing with title hopes. I know that I enter every season expecting to go undefeated and this one will be no different. I am becoming consumed by anticipation by the day.

maybe we will get to see these type of games more often. It seems that along with instant replay, the big 12 is discussing making the new 12th game a mandatory "marquee" game, in order to help tv ratings. The only real way to enforce this type of a mandate would be to say that you must schedual a game with a team from a bcs confrence. Predicting who will be on top in the future is nearly impossible

Schedule OSU/UM and you will very rarely not get a top team. Same goes for USC, since there aren't enough good teams to keep them out of the top-10 even in a down year.

This is going to be a fantastic game. I'm eager to watch (any of our LBs but especially) Hawk vs Young in the open field all day long. It's gonna be a great matchup.

Well, marquee names are marquee names, period. Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami (Fl), any of the big SEC teams, Southern California, will always be big names in college football regardless of some off years. We have, in addition to Texas, home/away series scheduled with Miami (Fl), USC, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech. USC and Miami should still be powerhouses when we play them (2008/2009 and 2010/2011)...Syracuse and Va Tech are sort of a crap shot, but are still very respectable programs. Hell, one year (2010) we play both Syracuse and Miami...tell me that is not a tough OOC schedule.

i hope that you did not think that i was trying to belittle your ooc schedual. There is one thing in your post though that supports my possition. You already have games schedualed until 2010. You cannot just turn around and say hey I want to play so and so. It does not work that way. I would be willing to bet that you put cuse on your ooc games when they were a top 25 team. I doubt they will be as good when you play them. 3-4 years ago we played UNC in our non confrence games. They were terrible, but we actually schedualed them when they were a top ten team and had a coach by the name of mac. All I was trying to point out was that it would be nice to make a conserted effort to make the big 12 a better confrence. Running off and playing d2 schools is not the way to do it.

HL - That is one good thing about if the Big XII can force their teams to have a "premium" matchup is that with the additional 12th game everyone has an open date. So there is a window for some huge premium matchups to be set up. Over these next few years no one has the excuse that "our schedule is full til 2015".
