Mmmm....catsup.....
Actually, the "Al Gore invented" thread has over twice as many posts, they are all short posts so we could have an argument about which one is actually bigger. Wouldn't that be productive?BearBuck27 said:I'm a little to lazy to look it up, but I gotta believe that this just may be the biggest thread in BP history (now that it has passed Gwaltney's) and it is only May. Unbelievable!!! The anticipation of this game may be greater than the ND series in '95 and '96.
I'd argue that this one far more content rich. But some of the Al Gore invented schticks are good for a chuckle.FindlayBucks said:Actually, the "Al Gore invented" thread has over twice as many posts, they are all short posts so we could have an argument about which one is actually bigger. No. Ohio State lost one home game. To Wisconsin. The other losses were at Northwestern, at Purdue and at Iowa. The previous home loss for Ohio State was in 2001 to Illinois.borna'horn said:Ohio State lost two home games just last year, did they not? In my mind, Ohio State still has a lot to prove, namely that it can win more consistently. I think Texas is the more confident, polished team heading into the season. But I am definitely not betting the farm on a win in the Shoe.

In the past four years, Texas has only lost one game on another team's home field. That was a high-scoring shootout at Texas Tech in 2002. During this same time, Texas has also only lost one home game. Again, the games vs. OU on the neutral field in Dallas are responsible for most of the damage to Texas lately. In fact, Texas likely would have gotten into the BCS National Championship Game in '01, '03, and '04 if they had just beaten OU. Against the rest of its schedule, Texas has been nearly perfect for four straight years.

In response to your question, I agree with you on the playoff system. IMHO, the current setup in college football (D-1A) is what makes it so great. I don't mind having 2 undefeated teams after the bowl season and having a debate about which team is better, it makes for more interesting discussions. Also, since there are 700 bowl games, 350 D-1 teams can go out on a winning record- and we should all remember that these are college kids, most of who will never play another down of football after they leave college. College football is the greatest fan sport in the world because of the bowl system, and any switch to a playoff couldn't make it any better.borna'horn said:Question for everyone:
Do you think the draw of this game is an argument against a playoff? I mean how many other sports can boast this much anticipation for a regular season game, particularly so early in the season. If there were an 8-team playoff, where conference champions automatically go, this game would practically be an exhibition game, or at least just for seeding. But under the current system, this game is like a playoff game in September. I think it makes the whole season more exciting.
A few stats to add to the discussion:
Texas is 0-5 against OU since 2000 and 34-1 against the rest of the Big 12 in the regular season.
