I disagree. I think that Florida-FSU is the second biggest rivalry in CFB. That's a hated grudge match between kids who all competed in High School, and over the last twenty years has been the rivalry game with the most National Title implications.

The more i think about this game the more excited I get. I cannot help but try to think about the knee -jerk reactions that are going to happen as a result of a win/loss.

If Texas wins, all of our fans/ media will say, "see, they really are that good." then we will proceed to get our butt handed to us by ou.(too much shit has been said about ou being down, Im not buying it until it happens) Buckeye fans will go, "damn, VY was that good" and then your season will go one way or the other.(i dont claim to know enough about your team to know how they typically react)

If OSU wins all your fans/ media will say," see JT's gott'em playing great d again, the bucks are going to be tough to stop. You will then probably proceed on to a rose bowl.( i have much more faith in this game being a spring board for you than us). On the other hand, If texas loses this game i would be very suprised if we lost another game this year(pre big 12 champ.). Mac has done a great job over the years of taking a loss and making it a possitive.

Many people on this board give VY a ton of credit, but are cautious about saying he can do it against the bucks. Let me make this clear, he can! that does not mean that he will. I would love to see the shock and awe(sorry couldnt resist) on the faces of osu fans if vince goes bananas. The same goes for texas fans if we get railroaded.(that just won't be quite as enjoyable) i don't have a solid feeling about vy running, your d will probably contain him to an extent, i actually think that texas will win a close one, and it will be through the air.

ps: i have no real good reason for making that post other than making the morning pass at work, please don't read too much into it

I have never been to a FLORIDA-FSU game... so I can't disagree with this statement... BUT the RED-RIVER SHOOTOUT IS... IS... I CAN'T Explain it. I think Texas-OU is high on the list... they too have alot of hate towards one another. Some of it is due to recruiting Texas talent, and beating the University of Texas with Texas kids.

Quite a few Texas athletes turn BORDER TRAITOR and run to the cheaters side.

I counted 41 Texas Kids on a 68 man roster, and only 14 Oklahoma kids.

no, buckeye fans will call for tressel's job because he can't win the big one...and they will make excuses as to why VY and texas won. it wont go so far as the cryami fans who said we didn't beat them, they beat themselves.....but it will be along the lines of 'if so-and-so did this we wouldve won'

I agree 100%. The winner of the game will be in the drivers seat for the Rose Bowl and the National Championship, though I don't think a loss for either team, being that this game is so early in the season, is an absolute disaster. As long as the game is close, neither team would fall out of the Top 10 with a loss, and there will be 9/10 more games to make up ground to get back into the BCS picture. I feel this game is more important for the Bucks than the Longhorns, both because the Bucks will be ranked lower going in, there are a lot of doubters coming off the 8-4 season (most notably those who gave up watching after the abysmal first half of last season), and because a win will give the Bucks a lot of self confidence with the showdown with Iowa looming only two weeks later.

The early half of last season was the growing pain of having 14 players drafted after 2003, not to mention a number of other quality seniors that are often overlooked because they weren't drafted (Scott McMullen - as solid a #2 QB as we could have hoped to have). The drubbing the Bucks suffered at Iowa was inevitable and important to this team for this season, because now they know what personel they have and also how it really feels to get flat-out outplayed, which most of these current players have never felt in their Ohio State careers.

I don't envy this years Iowa or Northwestern teams, who I think these players are seriously looking to whack with some payback.

My fear going into this season is that the players get caught looking to Texas, Iowa and Michigan, and don't show up against three teams that are competitive and look at playing Ohio State as their season benchmark: Miami OH, San Diego State, and Penn State.

A good number of high-profile post season awards could be won or lost in the OSU v Texas game too. The Heisman and the Butkis are both on the line that night.

VY is a tremendous athlete, I wouldn't dispute that for a second, but OSU's defense, especially the LBs/DBs are as athletic and deep as they come. I don't doubt that VY will make a highlight play or two. The problem will be if he makes more than two, then the Buckeyes could be in trouble. Another concern is the soft defense the Buckeyes tend to fall into when they're nursing a lead in the 4th quarter -- I don't think that will fly with VY. Unless we're up by at least 14 with 15:00 minutes to go, I'll be on the edge of my seat, and I don't see either team maintaining a double digit lead.

Conference records and last years performances can get thrown out the window, these two teams aren't playing Michigan, they're playing each other, and I think some individual player match-ups are going to make for an exciting, tough fought game. I'm especially interested in seeing the Texas O-Line up-close and personal, and see how the Buckeyes D-Line matches up. Finding a 25-carry RB is important to the Bucks, but there are enough playmakers in the offense to offset deficiencies in the running game this season, if there are any. The key need position for the Bucks is a fast, rush DE. If we don't find a disruptive rush end for 2005, we can forget about a national championship, especially with an O-Line like Texas coming in for Game 2.

My question for Texas fans isn't with VY's physical ability ... we all know he is fleet of foot. My question is with his head ... can he follow progressions and recognize a defense? I won't bother comparing the talent between OU and OSU (or a Big-12 defense and a Big-10 defense), but I promise you VY has never seen the blitz schemes that OSU will bring.

hahahahaha, if we lose we will hear the same thing about how mac and greg davis can't coach and if we wouldnt have been as conservative and yada yada yada
Although I agree with the play selection statement most of the time... that is definately what will be said... and also... We shoulda put..{fill in any **Freshman stud recruit ** name} in the game..

well if you talk to aggy fans they say that no, vy is dumber than a box of rocks and cannot read a progression. Unless the break down the game tape i dont really know what proof they have of this. He is consistantly checking off his outside recievers and hitting the slot and TE's and also thows the deep ball well. The only stat you can point to is is td to int ratio but, that does not take into account our very green recieving corp last year. he may not be the second comming of joe montana, but he isnt forest gump either.

true i don't know how i forgot about that one. If we play them later and they do well then the grumblings really start.( some of that bitching is legit though, ie benson, the big three recievers, ect)

Yeah, if OSU beats Texas we are thinking Rose Bowl or bust, especially IF we win by more than 2 TDs.

Now, if Texas wins it will depend on HOW we lose will be how we react. Plus if Troy Smith starts or Zwick starts then Troy comes in. That will be a full debate no matter the outcome.

If our offense struggles, the cries will be first to change QBs or change other personnel. Also the normal cries of Tressel needing to get a fulltime Offensive Coordinator (right now Tressel calls all the plays)

If we miss Field Goals. We will miss Nugent even more and start talking about trying someone else at kicking.

If the defense falters we will start blaming the new defensive coordinator and play "what if" games about if Mark Snyder was still here.

And no matter what, we will not be happy. Since it is at home I do expect to win, just as much as in 2006 Texas fans should expect to win that game. Home field is that big of deal in college sports when 2 high quality teams play each other.

its really funny to me that teams have almost programed responses to everything but at the time that they are made they honestly feel like the truth(every now and then they are right)

also if texas wins, then all of the fans will talk about the big game monkey being off mac's back(rose bowl does not count apparently), and inevitably the aggy fans will tell us that this indeed was not a big game but rather an inconsequential ooc game and to talk to them when we beat ou.(forgetting that they have lost to us for the past five years)
