So I did some digging.

tOSU is 6-0 at the Shoe in night games correct? Well none of those teams were even in the top 15...

Trends are meant to come to an end. I hope it happens on the 10th.

i worked at Mandalay for four years... first at Rock Lobster, then at rumjungle... i'm in the service industry, so no real experience in gaming or the Book... but i probably spent as much time in the Book as i did at work... Papa Joe Chervaliet (or however you spell it) used to do his radio show from the Book, and i'd chat him up during commercials... i hung out with this dude Henry, who was a runner for some big time guy in Chicago... dude lived on the top floor of Mandalay, and all he did was bet on football... i remember one Monday night we were sitting there BSing, and he just said, "i don't like that line, i'm gonna change it." so up he goes and drops $25 Gs on the Raiders... then he came back, and we watched the line drop from 7 to 6.5 points... naturally, the Raiders won by 7... crazy... as for setting the lines specific to certain fan bases, i'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me... personally, i don't bet on my team... but when Ohio State played Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, the lines opened at Miami -13.5, and then after Christmas, once all the Buckeye fans started showing up, the lines dropped two or even three points in some places, which is just INSANE... i mean, it takes a TREMENDOUS amount of money on one side to get a line to drop three points...

as for tipping, Tiger is a shitty tipper... Jordan is a shitty tipper... Barkley tips like a maniac... Drew Carey tips like crazy too... i was there when he threw a cocktail waitress $10,000 one night... i got wasted with Dennis Rodman at the House of Blues one night... i drank a bottle of Patron with the Bare Naked Ladies, bought Cuba Gooding Junior so many shots he fell off his bar stool, talked hockey with Mike Myers, you name it...
i got a lot of stories...

i love Mandaly Bay...
My hats off to you. Thats awesome.

Northwestern was 3-0 and ranked #14, and Washington (season opener) was ranked #17, coming into the games. We blasted both teams and both their seasons went to shit after that...

A little off topic, being something of a herbalist and hearing that buckeyes where toxic, I thought I would check out medicinal uses. I first checked to see if they were psychoactive, but no such luck, even though had had gotten that impression along the way.

I did find out that the active compound is aesculin (or esculin) and it is good for hemorroids. So now I know what buckeyes are good for.:wink2:

I apologize for that post, a drunken chemist is a dangerous thing. Good thing I'm not a nuclear physicist today.

I dunno if I got this story right, but I remember hearing a while back Michigan fans got smart and thought they could make a buck or two by selling peanut butter with ground buckeyes in them so that they could claim they "ate buckeyes for breakfast." Well, mashing buckeyes into a paste and injesting it in large quantities would tend to concentrate the poison in your blood. Result, a bunch of dead Michigan fans.

If that story isn't true, then I got another one that is. My good high school friend goes to Michigan - we have a mutual respect for each others football programs but come that week in November and all politeness is thrown out the window. His parents moved into a huge new house with a pool and a tennis court this summer. When I walked over to the pool I saw a giant branch floating in there. I pulled it out, looked at it, and smilled. I called him over and said "Hey man, you got a giant buckeye tree growing in your backyard over your pool." A little more looking around and it turned out almost every tree surrouding his house was a buckeye. All he could do was give me one of those "You're an ass but I can't do anything about it" looks.

Just getting some farks made ahead of time, for when Mack gets owned by yet another block O team wearing red with a coach from ohio.

At least it's not that 'pwned' spelling I keep seeing. Of course, it probably would have been because it's pretty important to include the letter 'O' in this case. So the creator of said fark only gets half credit.
Other random comments:

Has it really been several pages without mention of 40 times? Weird.

I just watched a VY highlight video on hornfans and had an orgasm. I know, I know, tOSU's linebackers won't miss tackles like that.

I rewatched the Ted Ginn highlight video because I'm bored. I can see how that might induce an orgasm from Buckeye fans.

I have a belt buckle, but I don't wear it. Living room decorative purposes only.

I do, however, own a few pairs of boots, all of them leather. Curiously none of them are in burnt orange. This shall be remedied within the year.

I need a(nother) beer.

Texas-size rumor about OSU game shot down by club
Thursday, August 25, 2005
Jeb Phillips
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The first call came three weeks ago. Several have come every day since. They start something like this:

"I heard a rumor . . ."

Laurie Watkins knows enough to cut the callers off: "No, it’s not true that Matthew McConaughey has rented out the Varsity Club for the Texas game."

Watkins is the day manager of the bar on Lane Avenue near the Ohio State University campus, the de facto center of football game-day celebrations. McConaughey is the Texas-born actor, star of A Time To Kill and this year’s Sahara — and a University of Texas graduate.

Some would call it a terrible insult — an infiltration, really — if McConaughey were able to take over the Varsity Club for one of the biggest college football games of the year — Texas at Ohio State, Sept. 10.

This rumor has been all over. People who walk in ask about it, too, said Watkins and Tony Mollica, the bar’s general manager. The customers say they heard it on the radio, though they can’t remember the station. They start to get angry.

And all Watkins can say is, "We would never do that. This is a Buckeye bar."

The Varsity Club does rent out its lower floor regularly, but never on game days, Mollica said. A private party couldn’t bring in the kind of business that a game in the Horseshoe does.

The Varsity Club gets prank calls all the time from purported celebrities, saying they’d like to rent the bar, Watkins said. A few years ago, someone claiming to represent the Rolling Stones called, wanting the bar after they played a concert here, Watkins said. Bar managers thought it was a joke and rejected the request. Turned out it was for real, Watkins said, but too late to rent out the place.

No one even claiming to be McConaughey has called, Mollica said. There’s no truth to the gossip. None at all.

On to the next rumor.

"I have heard that President Bush is flying in," Watkins said.

I thought President Bush was coming in?

Word on the street is that McConaughey and Sandra Bullock will actually be renting every establishment along High Street from downtown to Worthington. Oh yeah, Lance Armstrong will be riding around 270 before the game. Because no Ohio drivers will be allowed in the left lane of 270 (going slower than the rest of the cars) while he is riding he should be able to do the lap in about 10 minutes. Once he finishes his lap he will lead the Longhorns into the stadium.

It would be an insult to allow a Texas grad to rent out the varisity club but from what I've seen of Matthew McConaughey he seems like a down to earth guy, especially for an actor, glad that was just a rumor. He's a huge football fan and likes to party. He should fit in well here for the weekend if he comes up for the game even though he will be the enemy.
