Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

It's gonna be exciting to watch Boeckman in the second half of the Miami game tho. I really think that if there is any truth to the Boeckman starting vs Texas rumor, Tressel may still let Zwick start vs Miami (out of respect) and switch at halftime.

Losing Troy takes a way a lot of the speed plays as well as trickery. Ginn is capable of throwing it back to Smith or scrambling... or in a more conservative scheme the high speed we have at RB & WR can be used better with an athletic QB.

First I'll say I'm glad that all your QB's will be available for the game. I want to see us play your best, whoever that turns out to be.

I would like to get back to this quote.

"Woodley is a better DE (in addition to DT Watson) than what texas will be bringing."

I'm not sure I understand. While I agree that Woodley is better than either of our DEs based on last years perfromance, are you saying that Watson is better than any of our DTs? If so, I and something like 4 out of 5 draft scouts would disagree.

I'll give you a little background on our DTs.

Wright of course is listed as the #1 DT prospect in the country by most publications and is completely healed from the injury that slowed him down last year.

Dibbles (all Big 12) is rated only a spot or 2 below Watson (2-3 round) and is in the best shape of his life.

Our bext DT Okam will probably likely start ahead of Dibbles, unless Dibbles gets the nod becasue he's a senior. Okam is better than Shaun Rogers was and may turn out to be our best DT ever.

For backups you can check out Lokey, rumoured to be the strongest man on the team these days. In the Rose Bowl he didn't play much but he managed to push Baas backwards 5 yards and tackle Hart for a big loss on one play. We have an incoming Freshman you may get to see Miller. If you watched the Army game he was #75 who was always in the East backfield. We also have a couple others who are pretty good.

For DT the question is not so much can you handle Watson, but can you handle two sets of Watson's in rotation. Our DTs are that good.

1) read the last two pages and tell me how many times I said your line was better than UM's.

2) I didn't see both of your DTs listed as AA's. They are tougher than handling just gabe, but they aren't two gabes.

3) When will you ever learn that you aren't talking to aTm here. Our starting DE Kudla just benched 52 reps of 225, and maxed at 585. We have tons of physical freaks too, so stop trying to impress us with guys that won't be starting.

Xrayrandy according to your stats and analysis there is not one weakness on this team or past teams. The people at RB and LB are potentially better than two number one picks in the NFL. What a minute it was just the O-line and not Benson. Hopefully the Bears figure that out and do not waste the money on him. How has Texas not won every game or at least their own conference? How did you even have a close game last year and barely beat Michigan. According to all these draft scouts perhaps the NFL should just sub in UT for the Dallas Cowboys. I guess it goes back to coaching and execution. OK, I understand and your passion for UT and you are trying to prove points but when you say in one sentence that this DT is #2 and then a sentence later the other DT is the best ever and may start over him. Come on which story is it.

I concur with xray's mostly-stat-free post.

Wright and Okam are monsters. Dibbles and Lokey are very solid. We haven't seen Miller play college ball yet, but he should be solid.

Lokey recently broke his foot, and probably won't be 100% when we play. He may not play at all.

Last year, the D-line didn't have to do much. They just closed up holes and DJ would clean up whatever was left over. We really didn't put them in a position to get in the backfield and pressure/sack the QB. With our depth at DT, I think we'll let them loose.

...you say in one sentence that this DT is #2 and then a sentence later the other DT is the best ever and may start over him. Come on which story is it.
Okam is a monster. But he's a SO and Dibbles is a SR. Okam will likely play the best of the two this season. But Dibbles is looking to play in the NFL after next season. I wouldn't be surprised if Dibbles starts because it is a "money season" for him, and Mack understands this and tends to showcase the SRs for this reason.

"Xrayrandy according to your stats and analysis there is not one weakness on this team or past teams."

That is not true. Outside linebacker is a complete unknown. Sure we have great talent there, but we don't know how they will do. I never said any of them would be as good as DJ. Think about your LBs next year. You lose guys who are "irreplaceable" but at the same time you have some talented players, and maybe someone like Freeman could be better than any of your starters this year. Our situation is no different, well we don't have anyone like DJ.

Runningback is a tough one. Benson is slow, he does owe a lot to our OL, and he does owe a lot to Vince being a great decoy for him. But he is steady and durable and should have a good, possibly great, NFL career. As for replacements I was never one who thought Selvin was close to passing Benson, they are totally different runners and should be used in different situations. I do Think Taylor is a better back than Benson, and some talent scouts thought he was the best back in Texas his senior year (read better than Peterson). That is a pretty tall order, but I'm optimistic about him.

The biggest change that occurs due to losing Benson is that we will not be much of a grind it out team. Ramonce and Selvin can score anytime they touch the ball, so they will grab big chunks of yards every few plays. We should have a more explosive offense this year.

I don't understand the question? Dibbles was a starter last year, made All Big 12 and he was projected as a second round pick in the coming draft. I never said he was #2.

Okam, who was a true freshman last year is now our best DT, his spring was that good. He plays like Shaun Rogers if Rogers had played flat out every down. I think he could be better than Kenneth Sims, our best DT ever. I am not the only one who thinks this.

I was joking with some friends that the state of our program has become such that we consider a starter a liability if they aren't projected as a first day draft pick. On defense right now we have 4 "liabilities", Robison and Brown are 4-5 round prospects trying to work their way up, and then we don't know who will start at OLB. Robison was named the #5 freak in college football recently for whatever that is worth.

Question

Serious question I was wondering about guys... and I'm not trying to flame here.

I've heard that the no alcohol policy was brought up mainly due to some people going a little overboard after a few big games. My question is this... will our RV be safe if people know that we're Texas fans?

The only reason I'm asking is for insurance reasons. We're renting the thing and none of us could afford to go back with a broken window or some shit and I'm wondering what kind of coverage to get.

We'll be parked in Scooter's lot, but I'm just wondering how worried I should be... as in... do I need to go through the hassle of hiding all UT paraphenalia before we go in the game?

As I said before, I know your overall fan reputation is classy and there are bad apples at every school, but I was just curious if this happens often?

Now that I think about it... maybe I should be posting the question on the UM message board

All the trouble has been on the other side of campus. The RV lot is mostly a mature crowd that are heavy Unversity donors. Higher end business people and such.

All the trouble happens well over a mile away off of High Street near the frat houses. You'll find in the RV lot, you'll be respected and accepted without prejudice and your vehicle will be prefectly safe.

No need to worry about that. Most people leave for the game and leave their chairs out and stuff knowing they'll be there when they get back. This crowd watches out for each other. Its almost a fraternity type atmosphere.
