Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Who the hell cares? Tedd Ginn is obviously about as good as a sprinter coming out of high school as you will find. How many high schoolers are Olympic-caliber right then anyway? Pretty much none, aside from some juiced East Germans of the '80's maybe. The fact is that Ginn DOES have Olympic sprinting ability, and he just happens to use that on a football field right now. Sure he would have to dedicate himself to track and field if he ever wanted to go that route, but who wouldn't? He's got as much sprinting ability as almost any Olympic-caliber athlete ever did. He'll get his chance to use it if he passes on football after college.

Damn good post, sir!

I believe that brings us full circle. Did he do something I am not aware of? Before something can be considered factual, there has to be facts supporting the claim.

J-Mee Samuels ran a 10.08 FAT 100 meters last year. That is an example of someone who has a future as an elite sprinter.

the reality: ginn can fly, charles can fly. but the other thing is you guys have guys playing db/lb that can motor. the one reason i really enjoyed last years game was 22 kids on the field could run. you had dt running sideline to sideline, tackles making downfield blocks, gaurds smashing people as they pulled. anyone who was at that game can tell you it was a football game. regardless of score, outcome and what not it was a joy to watch. just two real solid coaching staffs teaching kids who not only played their asses off for 60 minutes, but nearly every kid who touched the field had elite level talent.

some of you guys look forward to a ginn-charles track meet, or tressel-brown game of poker/chess/stratego/whatever game they decide to play, reality is i doubt it comes down to that. i look forward to see 100 and some kids play their asses off for their state, their school, their pride, their tradition, and most likely a spot in a bcs if bowl, if not the bcs bowl in arizona...

You make a good point. However, what does Ginn not having Olympic-ready track times in high school have to do with determining his Olympic-potential as an athlete? I guess that means anyone who doesn't qualify for the Olympics as an 18 year old clearly doesn't possess the speed and ability to ever be an Olympic athlete? Well, the problem with that, is that there are guys who had elite, though not quite the "most" elite, speed as prepsters, who did go on to become Olympic and world-class competitors. Remember a guy named John Capel, the Florida WR? Well, his prep time of 10.49 in the 100 I'd say is pretty close to Ginn's time of 10.5. Take it for what you will.

I don't recall many 2-QB systems. Spurrier used to do it a whole bunch, even if was just pulling the starter for a series because Spurrier is an impatient asshole.

Ainge and Schaeffer at Tennessee 2 years ago? Vols were doing well until both of them got hurt.

After the Arkansas loss for us 3 years ago, Chance Mock and VY split time all the way up to mid November. We went 9-2 after that point.

So basically, there are a few damn good teams who've done it, but no champions. Guess we'll be the first to do it then.:)

I'll play the matchup game. I'll even give some ratings (1-10) to make it look like I'm being objective and I know what I'm talking about.
QB- tOSU. no explanation needed. OSU-9.5 UT-7
RB- UT. But not by much. UT 9.5 OSU 9
WR's- even. We don't have anyone as dynamic as Ginn, but we go 5-6 deep, all of whom have plenty of experience. UT 9 OSU 9
Line- Everyone except Mangold is coming back for OSU, right? OSU is solid, but UT's is still slightly better. UT 9.5 OSU 8.5

Defense is gonna be hard. I don't know anything about who might start on defense for OSU, and I don't think many of you do either. So I'm not going to even try. How many of those 4 4-star true freshmen linebackers are expected to break the 2-deep? 3? Y'all look very deep at DB based on sheer numbers, but not so much at DE. I'd give the edge to UT for every unit until we see what all those backups and underclassmen do on the field for tOSU.
