via conference matchups or regional programming, a buckeye fan regularly experiences the gigantic Ohio, Michigan, Beaver, Camp Randall, Kinnick & Notre Dame stadiums... if DKR were brought north it would be the 6th ahead of only Iowa. However if it were brought up here, they would have naturally built a larger stadium at least 10 years ago :p :nerd:

If we take up a collection to fund the new stadium, will you send up a few exchange women? :biggrin:

edit: I'm explaining his perspective, your stadium is good IMO. See my later post...

first of all, you did see the smileys right? I was poking fun, and explaining the vantage point of most buckeye fans when judging DKR.

as for your "argument"... :rofl: Either you were in a coma last year and missed that crystal ball thingee, or you think your team wasn't as good and got lucky. Many horn fans think they are the better team in 06 as well, especially with the OSU exodus on D, and that will be at home.

thanks for the newsflash, Texas has always been there with OSU in revenue and are cleaning up even more this year. I was merely explaining where the 'small school stadium' perspective comes from in this part of the world. I think Texas' stadium is pretty good, not great (like the new one will be)... it definitely doesn't suck.

From my perspective it suffers from a lack of master planning, but with the current construction being tied into a master plan, the finished 120,000+ product should be pretty nice. At least the models are attractive.

One complaint from Texas fans is that the east side upper deck doesn't match the west side. I've always thought that the east side upper deck was intending to be nothing more than a roof for the luxury suites. Of course there are excuses about not wanting to extend the outer walls further and block the street next to it.

I understand the fan view. If it was up to the average Texas fan the south endzone would have been done decades ago and the stadium would hold 100,000+.

What is driving the expansion is the addition of luxury boxes at $50K+ each per year, and a few thousand new club seats for $3000 a year donors. That way they boost revenue without adding many seats at all. By the time we go home and home with OU the stadium will seat close to 95K and tickets will be $105, and the overall revenue will be significantly higher than now. It's all business.

Seating is a little under 81,000 now, with a capacity of 86,000 total. The rebuild of the north end zone (summer 2007) with north upper deck and luxury boxes (summer 2008) is supposed to take it to 93,000+ seating and maybe 100,000 capacity. It will porbably stay that way until tentatively 2020 when the matching south enzone goes in, taking the capacity to 120K or so.

Do you have any pictures of what it will look like or has a model even been made yet? I heard rumors we were upgrading to around 120-125 k too. That'd be kickass.

"football revenue" calculations are often sketchy because different schools account for development funds in different ways. I remember a couple years ago when Arkansas supposedly led the country in football revenue because they counted some big one-time donation to the AD.

Stadium expansion model: 115-120k seating capacity.

DKR I believe has the largest structural dimensions (height, width, length,etc) of any stadium in the country, therefore the "expansion" is not so much the building up of the current stadium to bigger and better things as some stadiums across the country, but rather fulfilling the potential of the existing architecture. As you can see from the model pic, the completed product looks infinitely more symetrical, and well, complete than the current stadium's monolithic, mock-horseshoe design. Not only does this seem to complete the stadium's true potential, but it also easily, surpassing the largest current stadiums' design capacities, validating its inherently superior dimensions, all without creating additional stadium perimeter or height. I guess everything is bigger in Texas. Or at least it will be. :) Bout damn time....
