Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Ouside of the Rose Bowls and the Ohio State game, the games where I most saw Vince make a difference were the two Oklahoma State games and Kansas his sophomore year. Those are the games I most worry about without him. The ones we are supposed to win but end up in a hole and needing a comeback to win.

For some reason I am fairly confident about the Ohio State game. Texas has lost only one home game this decade. It may not be as famous as the Shoe, but Texas' home field has been a decided advantage in the Mack Brown era. The guys have that swagger and confidence that they have been missing sometimes. That is usually the key ingredient to Mack Brown's teams' success.

Well that is the same thing that we thought last season, but it was you leader at QB that willed your team to win. This year the roles are reversed and we have that leader at Qb.

It's worth pointing out that Texas never plays their main rival at home. Sort of skews the stats a bit. Some of those OK games, you guys would have lost whether it was in Dallas or Austin.

I really don't understand what you are trying to say here. If it is that we have won some games that we would have lost in norman well that is probably true, ou has also won some games they would have lost in Austin. However, regardless of all that, what does it have to do with what we were talking about?

It was in regards to only having one home loss in 10 years. If OU played in Austin every other year, they probably would have defeated you once.

disagree with us being favored.. i think that the defending national champions at home at night will have a 1,2, or 3 point advantage on us according to vegas... isn't home field an automatic 3? we could be favored 1 or 2 points, but because its in austin the spread would give texas the edge by 1 or 2 points

The fact that you home schedule is watered down because you never play the best team in your conference at home. That would be like OSU removing every michigan game from the home schedule and claiming our home record is better than it really is. You state that Texas has only lost one home game in however many years, but fail to mention that your home schedule would be a lot tougher if those wins included several over Oklahoma, your main rival. Texas's home record wouldn't look so good if they played Oklahoma in Austin during that streak of five straight losses to the Sooners.

I'm curious about the "small school" comment too.

From my perspective it suffers from a lack of master planning, but with the current construction being tied into a master plan, the finished 120,000+ product should be pretty nice. At least the models are attractive.

One complaint from Texas fans is that the east side upper deck doesn't match the west side. I've always thought that the east side upper deck was intending to be nothing more than a roof for the luxury suites. Of course there are excuses about not wanting to extend the outer walls further and block the street next to it.
