Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Based on what little I know,
1. tOSU
2. PSU
3. Wisky
4. Iowa
5. Michigan
6. Minnesota (does that dome get loud? seems like it would)
7. MSU
8. Purdue
9. Illinois
10. Northwestern
11. Indiana

Am I close?

You are wise beyond your region. Probably couldn't do much better than that other than probably reversing Minnesota and Purdue. Realistically, Columbus and State College are 1A and 1B, though it hasn't seemed like it lately because Penn State has been bad/mediocre. When the Buckeyes are mediocre (I vaguely remember a time when that was the case...), the crowd is fairly tame, the last game of the season excepted, of course.

Just curious......How would y'all rank the home fields in the Big 10?

Yes, you are quite close. I'd swap PSU and Wisconsin...PSU was off the scale for our game, but on the norm Wisconsin is a bit crazier despite being much smaller than Crappy Valley. Much like the Pig House, Crappy Valley proves that size is over-rated. I'd also move Northwestern up over Purdue and Illinois...despite all the decades of sucking ass (with a rare good year here and there) and being in a small stadium, their fans are pretty damn boisterous.

I'd say that's extremely close. I think some may re-shuffle the 6-7-8 spots, but the top and bottom look accurate to me.

HL, not trying to be a dick or anything, but I found some video on that highly regarded LB Sergio Kindle, and his defensive clips werent impressive at all. Whats the deal with this kid, hes ranked as one of the top LBs in the country.

well looking at those clips i can understand why you wouldn't be all that impressed. I have no clue why they would pick those for a highligt video. I had the chance to go and see a couple of games this year(since i live in dallas now) for an Urban High School they had huge crowds and much of it was covered in burnt orange. Trust me when i say that this kid is a consensus all american linebacker.....flat out playmaker

it should also be pointed out that all those "highlights" were in the same game

You guys remember xrayrandy from last year? Look at the stats he just came up with on the scout's texas board:

Re: tOSU vs. Texas <HR SIZE=1>On Topic

Texas OL is an big missmatch against the tOSU D-Line.

Texas DL is better than the OSU OL although much closer than the opposite matchup.

The tOSU Offense is overated in many peoples minds. UTs returning rushers gained more yards in 2005 and twice as many TDs than tOSUs returning rushers. UTs returning receivers gained more yards in 2005 and had nearly 3x as many TDs as tOSU returning receivers.

tOSU returns 9 starters on defense as stated before with the two returning starters having 39 tackles between them, and 63 tackles among the top three returning DLs. Robison hade 58 tackles and more TFLs than all tOSUs returning DLs combined (15 vs. 14) for comparison. tOSU returns around 16% of last years tackle production while UT returns 69%. I realize that tOSU has some defensive talent, but they will not be good as a unit early in the year. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Im in shock, wow. He knows his shit.

Yeah, that is impressive, I mean, all those powerhouse defenses they faced in the Big 12...

I guess the most blatant weakness in his argument is that his receivers can get triple the yardage of ours if they have a Heisman candidate QB throwin for 3,500 yards in a season. Your receivers aren't going to do squat if your QB can't toss. If they expect similar production from Colt McCoy/Jevan Snead then they should be willing to concede that Chris Wells will run for 300 against 'em.

Well...they are going to have an unknown at QB. We are going to have an unknown LB and secondary. That makes it interesting. They have good lines...but I think we have good lines too.

Too early to tell anything right now...but the game sure will be a lot of fun. I think it would be hard for anybody to say this game will be won before the 4th quarter.

xrayrandy sure loves to cherry-pick stats that make Texas look good. Texas played against shit defenses, plus their comparative stats are misleading because we didn't have offensive continuity from the beginning of the season like Texas did. Plus they no longer have Vince Young to draw to opposing defenses attention away from the rest of their offense. If you add up the per-game yardage, their RBs (Jamaal Charles, Selvin Young, Ramonce Taylor, and Henry Melton) had 185 yards per game. Our RBs (Pittman, Wells, Haw) had 133 yards per game, but Tressel shut our offense down in blowouts, unlike Brown did for Texas (70 points against Colorado, 62 against Baylor, 66 against Kansas, 52 against Texas Tech, 51 against Missouri and Rice, 60 against La-Lafayette, all of which had the starter in to the end).

Texas also returns all their WRs while we lose arguably the best WR in the country, so yes there will be a dropoff in the number of TDs from our "returning" WRs.

Even if Texas remains a strong offense, how does comparing their stats from last year to our stats from last year makes our our offense of this year "overrated"?

tOSU returns 9 starters on defense as stated

This is news to me...

I can't wait for when that dude pops back up on here in a couple months. I'm sure we'll hear how the grass on DKR stadium averages 5,300 blades per square yard as opposed to 3,900 at the shoe and what a difference it will make in slowing our WR's and Troy. He could probably dig up stats to show how Custer could take out Crazy Horse at Little Bighorn...
