Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

OSU returns players on defense that have a total of 402 tackles.

We are more experienced then you think.

Laurinithis, Wilson, Pitcock, Patterson, Penton(started when Pitcock was hurt), Richardson, Mitchell, and Jenkins all have started at least a game.

Thats 8 players with starting experience.

Don't forget that guys like Freeman, would of started when Carp when down and would of played a ton, when Carp put his hand down. Or I believe JamO saw time at nickel or maybe dime in games. And Kerr has game experience, from last year in mop up time and at IU his freshmen year.

We have a lot of battle tested guys that didnt start last season, b/c of the studs in front of them.

The only position we are not tested at is the boundary corner and that was how it was the year we won the national championship when we placed a sophmore in there that was slated to play safety but I think he did an ok job.

I dont see how xraydicksmoke thinks that a team that averaged 4 tds rushing a game could do that againts big10 opponents. The big12 has only 2 good defensive teams one being texas. All the other teams are weak ex, colorado, baylor, kansas. Plus texas played rice last year, i wish tosu could play teams like that. Final point is that unless your a buckeyefan that lives in texas the only thing comming from that state is steers and queers/xrayrandy.

I see buckeye247 is continuing his personal vendetta against xray. I personally am subscribing to the school that says we should just ignore the baiting until xray reverts to his previous good-posting self.

I'm not trying to tell you what to say here, but damn. Steers and queers? How long ago did Gunnery Sgt. Hartman say that? Point is, I think that insult expired many years ago, along with other overused, trite insults.

There is soooooo much more material to draw from. Here are some good starting points:

-Dubya
-Beltbuckles
-Enron
-the city of Dallas
-Oil culture
-LBJ
-Ann Richards
-Shiela Jackson Lee
-Tom DeLay
-Democrats in the Leg running for the border
-pretty much any other politician

Keep in mind I don't necessarily think all of the above should be made fun of, it's just that they've provided plenty of material should you feel inclined to do so.

Although "dicksmoke" was pretty good. Wasn't really relevant to anything, but that's a solid insult nonetheless.

I really wish everybody would stop taking this assbag's bait. If we keep pandering to him, 80% of this thread is going to be in response to his rediculous posts. Take my advise and put him on ignore...it will bring your blood pressure down a bit. He's been shilling the same garbage post after post, obviously there is no reasoning with him. Seriously, stop.

*edit* BTW, nice job in calling him on last years BS SNG77* now stop.:wink2:

I think a lot of posters here are taking this 'baiting' too seriously. X-Ray Randy has always been a 'stat person' I think we went through this same thing last year. The confidence in game results that he comes up with in the preseason based on projected stats is obviously silly, but it's even worse to get worked up about them.
He provides plenty of 'good' info to get fueled up for the game over, I'd be sad if xray stopped posting here. He gives a unique prospective to the game to us. Don't take it seriously, and have fun with it, we're all lucky to be part of such a great game this early in a season.

The one thing that concerns me about Texas is that their O has to change and we don't know exactly what they're up to. Are you guys planning on running the same O without VY because I can't imagine McCoy or Snead being half as efficient in that scheme as freshman as VY was as a junior. I'm also pretty positive you aren't going to show much in your scrimmage warmup with Valley High or whoever it is you guys play first. :)

I think turnovers will be big in this game, but I think the BIGGEST (mark my words) factor in this entire game besides pressuring the young QB's will be OSU's defensive adjustment (a la last year) in the 2nd quarter/halftime. If we effectively adjust to whatever it is Texas is trying to do on O, I think we'll be in good shape. Heacock is genius at this.

xray, I love your tunnel-vision statistics. They make me hot...lol.

I think Texas is just going to try and have the new QBs just manage the game and rely on the running game.

The big 12 teams you played last year and their average total defense last year (per NCAAsports.com) are as follows:

Iowa 382.67
Penn State 304.67
Michigan State 409.55
Indiana 417.73
Minnesota 412.67
Illinois 469.27
Northwestern 480.42
Michigan 345.17
For fun I'll add Notre Dame 396.92

I do think Texas could average 5 rushing TDs a game against that lineup.

I should have mention UTs Big 12 lineup for comparison.
Missouri 368.33
Oklahoma 306.67
Colorado 349.15
Texas Tech 335.83
Oklahoma State 419.64
Baylor 378.00
Kansas 303.25
A&M 443.82
CU again

As I said earlier talk to me about what your offense did running the ball agaisnt GOOD defenses. Big12 had several good rush defenses last year. Ill throw in rushing td vs OSU and USC as well. They are as follows with RUNNING BACK Rushing yards. (ie Vince Youngs stats removed.)

Ohio State 0 36 rushing yards
USC 0 89 rushing yards
OU 2 161 yards (80 on 1 play)
Kansas 2 314 (best of the season)

What IMO is getting factored is if a defense can force you to be 1 dimensional. Whats even better is if the defense can deny what you want to do and force you to do something your not as good at. I believe the OSU defesne will try to load the box to stop the run and put the game in the rookie quarterback. If the Defense does that, it will be extremely difficult for Texas to win this game.

Vince Young was so dynamic to the offense. I think Texas fans are going to very quickly see just how good he really was once the 2006 season is underway.

I think Smith has a monster night and does all kinds of damage both with his feet and his arm. Pittman and Wells go for around 120 Smith for over 175 passing and probably around 50-75 rushing

I think its a close game going into the 4th quarter and probably somewhere around 28-31 for the Buckeyes and Texas 20-24

I will say this. Were this game in Columbus I dont think it would be that close. I do think Texas has a good advantage playing at home.

I dont think the Texas offense is going to be very good. I think the Texas defense will be very good but be forced to play a LOT and will tire in the late 3rd early 4th quarter. Dispite that one nit wits projection I think Texas will have all kinds of trouble moving the ball on the ground against the buckeye defense.
