Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I hate to be the one to rain on ur parade, but that would make a loss all the more worse. I just hope we blow them out.

Really? You think THAT would make the loss worse? I would think that any kind of loss would be bad, regardless of who plays. In a game like this you take any bit of a break you can get. You are smoking crack if you think were going to blow them out on the road at night, in one of the biggest games that they've ever hosted.

So.....next time you don't have to apologize for raining on my parade bro, because the show will go on regardless. :wink2:

UT's Brown suspends pair after arrest

Posted: Tuesday September 5, 2006 8:07PM; Updated: Tuesday September 5, 2006 8:07PM

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas coach Mack Brown on Tuesday suspended starting cornerback Tarell Brown and backup linebacker and special teams player Tyrell Gatewood for Saturday's game against No. 1 Ohio State after their arrest on misdemeanor charges.
The loss of Tarell Brown, a senior and Texas' top cover corner, is a big blow to a defense counting on him to match up with the Buckeyes' top receiver, Ted Ginn Jr. Gatewood made one tackle on special teams in the No. 2 Longhorns' season opener against North Texas.

The players were arrested early Monday along with former Longhorn linebacker Aaron Harris when their car was pulled over by Travis County sheriff's deputies.
Tarell Brown was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon after he was found with a loaded 9 mm handgun on his lap, according to deputies. Brown, Gatewood and Harris all were charged with misdemeanor posession of marijuana less than two ounces.
Mack Brown would not say if the suspensions were only for the Ohio State game.
"I'm just trying to get through Saturday," the coach said. "As a head coach, No. 1 you have to look at the legal system and cooperate with the authorities completely," Brown said. "No. 2, you must go through the university because that's who we work for. No. 3, you are concerned about distractions for your football team. We want to move forward because it's No. 1 playing No. 2 and it's such an exciting game for all of us. No. 4, you care about the three young men involved and their families. We will try to help the families individually and move forward with our team for the ballgame on Saturday."

beware of da heat!

I am concerned about it. As I posted in the main game thread:

Having moved from Ohio to Florida I fully understand how the heat down south is a factor in early season football games. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are always very tough when they play a Northern team in Sept when the heat on the field is pushing 100. Usually the affects happen late in the game. I know you will say it is a night game but when it is hot down here it just does not seem to cool off until perhaps the AM. Cramps can be rampant. If you are not conditioned to it, your energy and focus can be markedly affected.

Southern schools take this deadly serious with hydration, cooling fans, and some even go to something like “air condition shoulder pads that is designed to regulate players' body temperatures during games and practices.” See this link for more info.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2004-01-27-air-conditioned-pads_x.htm

They probably are always doing new secret stuff every year to try and get a leg up.

I hope the good guys have done their homework on what works in the heat. I will be watching the weather and hoping for high temps that do not exceed 90, Avg highs seem to be about 93 in Austin. I hope the boys are hydrating all week. Being able to rotate players in and out of the game is a big help as well, especially on D.
Any news on what Texas does to stay cool? That first game looked like a scorcher!

This is a real factor in games played down south. I hope the guys get to TX with a few days to acclimate. The latest weather channel is calling for a high of 98 Saturday. :( That could make it 90 at game time.
