Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Gatewood was in the back seat with Brown sleeping. Aaron Harris was in the front by himself driving the car. According to the arrest warrent, the officer found the joint in the front next to the driver's seat. Texas law says all within "common area" have to be charged with possession.

no, i read that article, i was wondering what effect it would have on the team. did he play? 2 deep? his replacement??

Gatewood switched from WR to safety during the offseason. He is not currently listed on the 3 deep depth chart, but he has practiced a lot with the second team in the spring. I think he played on the kick coverage unit on Saturday. He will not be that critical in our game.

This is a real gem from xray (on hornfans):
Based on the officer's affodavit Tyrell didn't do anything wrong other than ride in a car with someone who had a blunt stashed under their seat.

Who knows why Tarell was sleeping with a 9mm in his lap., but it certainly doesn't sound that bad.

I don't know why everyone is focusing on the drug charge when he had a gun in his lap. I'm not saying that the marijuana charge shouldn't be looked over; but I'd be more worried about a gun than weed.

Agreed. I thought the same thing. However, reading the article I posted above, it appears that the gun belongs to Gatewood and ended up in Brown's lap because "Brown had found the gun on the floorboard of the backseat and picked it up".

If the police looked up the owner of the gun and verified Gatewood is the owner then I think Brown's in the clear. However, if Gatewood is saying "oh yeah...the gun is mine and doesn't belong to the starting cornerback of our team" then I'm still a little suspicous of who the true owner is.

you don't hold a loaded gun in your lap at 4 am for no reason, especially not in Harris' car.

2004
This is not the first late-night incident involving Brown and Harris and a firearm. On Dec. 12, 2004, someone shot out the window of a truck occupied by Brown and Harris.

Don't tell randy, but Texas is a 2.5, and not a 21, point favorite right now. Wonder how that'll chage with today's news...

I don't think it'll warrant being taken off the board. Not sure they'll even change the line.......all the money will be coming on the tOSU side. Probably a 3 point swing during the week.

Looking at this as objectively as possible, I would be all over tOSU+2.5. I don't bet against UT though, so that's out.

I thought this was a pick'em before. With the latest news, I'd think OSU should be favored by 2 or 3.

Yes, if the gun belongs to Gatewood then Tarrel is guilty for being stupid enough to get caught with the gun in HIS lap. However, that is a nowhere near as serious as Brown being in possession of a stolen/unlicensed gun which is what I first believed when I heard the charges.
