Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I seriously can't believe I remember this, much less reveal how much of a geek I am (might be too late for that anyway), but here it goes.

They played 5 or 6 SEC schools. They also played Texas (who beat them  ), a Big East school, an ACC school, and a couple Big 10 schools. I may or may not have remembered all that correctly, but the point is they multiple schools from a few conferences.

I don't think they were in any conference, so they were independent I guess?

And if it's modeled after a certain program, it's gotta be Oklahoma. Other than the obvious similarities, OU actually has a defensive player (OLB I think) named Lattimer.

damn i thought i was bad....

I'm impressed. Frightened, but impressed. Still, any thoughts on my Friday Nights Lights vs The Program? IMO, FNL is way better, not just cause it's about Texas football--it's just a hard-nosed movie. I put it right up there with "Hoosiers", which holds up surprisingly well.

Animal House wins. I know that it isn't about football, or really about any sports, at all. But it was damn funny, and the overall size of the funniness of Animal House makes the movie overflow from its rightful categories of "comedy" and "documentary" into "sports" and "sports/football," among other categories.

Animal House wins.

Good memory. And I'm sure they had a second or third grade kid in Colorado in their minds as a future Land Thief when they made the movie. :wink2:

Wouldn't surprise me. I bet they started giving him illegal payments at that age too.

And I applaud your use of the term "Land Thief"

And for the record, it's not like The Program is my favorite movie. I actually like FNL a whole lot more. I just paid close attention to the teams they were playing because I wanted to figure out a) what conference they were in, and b) what team, if any, they were modeled after.

For whatever reason I came to the conclusion that it was supposed to be Alabama or Auburn or something. Add the fact that the QB's dad lived in an industrial city/town (Midwest) and he had to give him a a plane ticket tells me me the school wasn't Midwest.
I thought way too much about that.

Fans

:oh: :io: I've been a buckeye fan since I was born and lived in Texas for a few years. I can say that all Texans are very proud of themselves and aren't afraid to say it. That doesn't mean their cocky. They have a very passionate rivalry with Texas A&M but I can tell you from experience that they are very respectful to each other. Who care if fans leave early when your getting blown out...every team has those type of fans!! Just remember that every team had people that represent their teas in a good, respectful way, and some fans who represent them is a very bad, disrespectful way.

The campus feels midwest, and the big game at the end of the season is against
Michigan.

I'm guessing that they put in elements of a bunch of different teams so that a bunch of people would identify to make more money. I guess I could be wrong.

Yep.

When the old halfback delivers the drushing block that springs the new halfback for the score, the play seems to take forever. I do like the last scene of the guy who didn't study gets his knee blown out and knows his dream is dead. Pretty good drama stuff.
