Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Well, you said... Friday night lights was better than the program.

First of all "The Program" wasn't about tOSU but beyond that....

the guy who was on steriods, I don't remember his name (same guy that was in Hudson Hawk), and the other guy who was also in "A river runs through it" (Mizula Montana) would RUTS (that would be Run Up The Score) Billybob any day. The only thing he has going for him is that he has had sex with Angelina, unfortunatly that doesn't make up the difference.

edit, and it is "James Caan"

Are u sure "The Program" wasn't about OSU? Weren't the colors the same? It sure seems like it was patterned around it. Anyway, "Friday Night Lights" wasn't about UT, but it's a damn fine football movie, maybe the best. Check it out if you haven't seen it. It shows all the ugly sides of high school athletics, along with the good, though it largely avoided the racism documented in the book.

Regardless, thanks for the explanation. LOL. Still, Billy Bob has made some pretty cool movies, though I admit that James Caan (thanks for the correction) could probably beat the living daylights out of him.

I don't know that The Program was about any school in particular but if it was it was Florida State...

No way "The Program" was patterned around FSU. The film lacks any reference or culture of the south. Contrast it with the setting of "The Waterboy," which is clearly a southern school. The feeling of the campus seems very midwestern to me, but that could just be my unbalanced mind in action.

My Road Runner home page flashed a pic of the UT QB set to try and fill Vince Young's huge shoes. Guy was wearing a black jersey with burnt orange stripes and numbers. Is this for real? Did Phil Knight take over Texas too?

well the more i have thought about it the more I see the mid west. there are a couple of southern things in the move, most notably the assistant coach(listen to him say steroids) and alvin mack and his country ass home.

any way, the fact that they play michigan durring the regular season against Tim "all the way" Wayman should basically end the discussion...it was too late in the year to be nonconfrence

The director/screenwriter (David S. Ward) was from Cleveland and the screenwriter from Jackson, MI.
Ward also did Major League, where the Cleveland Indians program became Detroit Tiger killers.

Seems like it would make sense for some midwest flavor to be interjected.

I seriously can't believe I remember this, much less reveal how much of a geek I am (might be too late for that anyway), but here it goes.

They played 5 or 6 SEC schools. They also played Texas (who beat them  ), a Big East school, an ACC school, and a couple Big 10 schools. I may or may not have remembered all that correctly, but the point is they multiple schools from a few conferences.

I don't think they were in any conference, so they were independent I guess?

And if it's modeled after a certain program, it's gotta be Oklahoma. Other than the obvious similarities, OU actually has a defensive player (OLB I think) named Lattimer.
