Ok, I think I understand. Ohio State has a winning record against 2 of the top ten teams, a losing record against 5 of the top ten and is tied against the other 2. Interesting I suppose, but not sure how relavent. I think the record under Tressel would be more relavent. Cited by jwins above 8-3 plus the loss to Texas makes Ohio State 8-4 vs. the top ten under Tressel. However he's never beaten Texas, so theres no possible way they can win this year:roll2:

the point is that VY was pressured all night long, regardless of what the stat-whores claim. His ability to overcome those beatings was what was so admirable. He got the snot knocked out him repeatedly, but I guess all of those were extremely late hits, not qb pressures.

I thought it was because he wanted to see if Jamaal could tackle.

Actually osugrad21, I also heard that he wanted the drama later in the game, so he wanted to keep it close, and threw the ball to Hawk, rather than a TD on that play, to keep the drama building. He was trying to build his legacy, and he thought that if he kept the game close, and won it at the end, it would start his legacy, and that he would give himself the best story-book ending to his legacy by leading a comeback in the Rose Bowl. He told Melton to dive out of bounds at the end of the game, so that the score looked closer on paper. He even told Aaron Ross to fumble the first punt in the Rose Bowl as well. If you haven't heard, Vince Young could do anything he wanted to do at anytime, so he basically set up the Ohio State game last year, play by play, as if it was WWF, for the drama.

saying the system is self-serving is an understatement akin to saying Texas summers can be mildly warm (the wind chill yesterday in Dallas was 102).

by including the historical record of all games Randy is able to venture back to the grand days of Darrel Royal to get Texas' good record against most teams played. but by including only one game in head to head he is able to get away from their dismal 1-4 record against OU.

once again, figures don't lie but liars sure do figure. :biggrin:

Towards the end of the game, when Nordgren started warming up after Vince got popped, and UT took its most important timeout of the season, you get an indication of the punishment that Vince took that game. He was definitely dazed at that point. Vince would probably tell you himself how great the pressure was from Ohio State that game if you asked him, as he commented on the speed of that defense already.

Also, I would imagine that Ohio State wouldn't have brought the pressure as much that game anyway, sitting back a bit and not overcommitting to the rush, as that is when Vince was deadly, no reason to force him out of the pocket at that point in time, since he was perceived as a poor thrower. All this talk makes me want to watch that game again, think I am going to do just that tonight (still pissed that it wasn't in HD, any word on that for this year?), and repost tomorrow.

For those getting into this thread late, let me summarize the last 2 pages in 3 sentences:

1. Ohio State's defense applied a bunch of pressure on Vince Young last year, more than he saw in any other game.
2. Even though he was immensely pressured, Vince still made enough plays to beat Ohio State.
3. xrayrandy is the king of stats and can manipulate them in any way to fit his viewpoint.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread and any offtopic posts that may ensue... :biggrin:

I guess that's just how I saw it. His last set of "stats" didn't have any relevance to this years game (or last years for that matter), they were only done to show the "superiority" of Texas over everyone else.
