Ohio State Rushing Defense
2005 #1
2004 #35
2003 #2
2002 #3

Lets see...that averages out to #11.

Yes...OSU has been "one of the best" against the run if you exclude 2004...but not if you include 2004.

Who's the douche now?

Go ahead, and include it. That was our rebuilding year. I really don't care.

We should be solid on both ends this year. Charles won't rush for over 100 yards. It's basically going to be up to your QB's to win the game. Good luck, bro.

I swear to god, arguing with these idiot Texas fans is starting to get old. It's like talking to a brick fucking wall. HL and EH withstanding, these guys have been complete morons. I am all for removing them from our existence on this site. I mean it is seriously incomprehensible how moronic this thread has been getting lately.

I live with it every day... :(

EH and HL have this board fooled. they are articulate and intelligent and will listen to the facts and the stats. they also represent 100% of the Reasonable LongHorn Fan Club.

What does 02-04 mean? 2004, 2003, 2002...well that still includes the year I was asking about.

Originally you said OSU was the best against the run the past four years...to me the last four years is 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002. Are you refering to another four year stretch?
it was a typo... I meant 02 to 05. OSU 4-yr avg: 83.675 per game. Has someone done better? Perhaps someone did better, but you'll have to prove it. In 05, there was 1 other team who matched OSU's 4 yr average.
I mean it is seriously incomprehensible how moronic this thread has been getting lately.
there's been plenty from BOTH sides...

my guess for this year would be 85-88 ypg in rush defense.

Here's a great post about just how ridiculous osu's rush D was last year
As for comparing the Bucks' Rush Defense to other Rush Defenses from this year, that's not even fair. I'll do the math for the top 5 rush defenses after the Bowls, but for now it suffices to say that the Buckeyes faced a brutal schedule vs. the run (2 of the top-3 teams) and STILL led the nation in rush defense. I've had all season to prepare for this, and it still blows my mind.

Here is how they stack up against the top-ranked defenses of the previous 5 years.

<table style="width: 480pt; border-collapse: collapse;" x:str="" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="641"><colgroup><col style="width: 92pt;" width="122"><col style="width: 57pt;" width="76"><col style="width: 41pt;" width="55"><col style="width: 50pt;" width="67"><col style="width: 48pt;" width="64"><col style="width: 57pt;" width="76"><col style="width: 38pt;" width="51"><col style="width: 50pt;" width="67"><col style="width: 47pt;" width="63"></colgroup><tbody><tr style="height: 12.75pt;" height="17"><td style="border: medium none rgb(236, 233, 216); width: 92pt; height: 12.75pt; background-color: transparent;" height="17" width="122">

The thing that blows me away about this, apart from the fact that we faced such an incredible slate of rushing offenses, is the fact that our statistics diminished hardly at all since the last time I did this analysis.

Normally, this would fit precisely with expectations. A defense's differential numbers should stay fairly consistent throughout the season. But since I last updated the numbers (Minnesota game) OSU played primarily to stop the pass against everyone but scUM. Especially against Illinois, we let them rush against the DL and played pass pro with the back 7. Against scUM, the game plan was clearly to make Henne beat us, which he didn't; but against everyone else, we took away the pass first. This shows that our run defense actually IMPROVED as the season went on, and it started out ridiculously dominant.

My favorite number however is this: The closest defense to tOSU 2005 in the Differential YPG category is TCU 2002. They held teams 81.4 yards below their average for the season. OHIO STATE's WORST performance this year was holding MSU 85.82 yards below their average!!

That's right: The Buckeye's WORST game against the Run this year was better than the BEST season average for any other team of the previous 5 years.

Now will someone please explain to me why there's even a discussion about who has the best LB corps in the nation this year? Add to this the injuries to a projected starter and our best depth (D'Andrea and Freeman), and this defies my ability to describe the scope of our dominance.

2 losses or not - this has been a great bunch of Buckeyes

All for a stunning 25 points.

Obviously, you didn't watch the game, so you really have no say. But, to fill you in as to why we didn't score more than 25 points at The Pig House, we had our true freshman cough the ball up on the first play of our first drive of the second quarter giving UM the ball at our 36, and Ginn kept muffing punts, pinning us back. The offense was put in hole after hole by players other than Smith, and yet when the chips were down Troy led touchdown drives of 67 and 88 yards in the final seven minutes to win.

Yes...OSU has been "one of the best" against the run if you exclude 2004...but not if you include 2004.

Who's the douche now?
i guess you are because math pwns you.
it averages out to #1...

thank you...

as a note, the list is by no means exhaustive, or even entirely accurate with regards to national rank-- which is why i didn't list 1,2,3, etc... i merely looked at the 4 seasons side by side, grabbed a bunch of teams that have had pretty solid Ds, and averaged them out... if you feel that there is a team that has given up fewer than 85.9 rushing yards per game over the last four years, feel free to try to locate it... maybe it's in the NFL...

Again...when did I ever say that UT has a better run defense? I NEVER claimed that UT had a better run defense. All I was doing was disputing whether OSU was #1 or not.

All you are doing is trying to kick sand in a Longhorn's face and looking all tough even though you still haven't proved that I ever said above that UT had a better run defense than OSU.
