Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

The Buckeye fanbase can't be held accountable for you
1. Watching a non-sporting event ESPN show
2. Watching Cold Pizza
3. Listening to Skip Bayless

If that's all you have, then you're seriously misguided on the whole "Ohio State media darling" nonsense.

They picked them #1 yesterday. Then they said they were going to project each week of the season over the next 2 weeks. I think all that's been posted in this thread is that ESPN-SC picked Texas to win the game on Sept. 9th.

The teams are so evenly matched that I think the media is going to split right down the middle in predicting the winner of this game so who cares. Today someone is picking UT. Tomorrow someone will pick OSU. Does it really matter?

What I do have a problem with is when the media doesn't even look at the matchups involved in a game and then overwhelming predict one team to beat the other based on hype alone. Of course, I realize I'm preaching to choir with this gripe.

It was on cold pizza straight from skip bayless. It may of been more him hating Texas than loving ohio state though because he said the same thing after the rose bowl.

it's SKIP BAYLESS, okay? he's so bad I don't even count him as a mediot. he has no credibility with anyone. somewhere there is a village missing Skip ... and if you're going to quote him then maybe there is a village missing you too...

Outside of the clarrett issues name any other times the media has been against tosu.

Since the 2002-03 Fiesta Bowl:

Reggie Arden
Chris Gamble & 9 Others
Louis Irizarry
Robert Reynolds
Santonio Holmes and Troy Smith
Branden Joe
Louis Irizarry and Ira Guilford
A.J. Traspasso
A.J. Traspasso
Lydell Ross
Albert Dukes
Troy Smith
Jim Bollman
Jonathan Skeete
Erik Haw
Tim Schafer
Brandon Maupin
Troy Smith
A.J. Hawk and Nick Mangold
Andree Tyree
Alex Boone

All these stories, be they minor or major in nature, good or bad, found their way to the national media and ESPN in particular. All were used to paint tOSU in a negative light. Some of the heat is deserved to be sure. Some of it is so trivial it was only published because it involved OSU. Rest assured we know MORE than we ever thought possible about the fine tooth comb and bad press. Just the bad press from Maurice (3+ years running) dwarfs all these other stories combined.

Freshman at RT

Sounds like this kid has tons of potential but the fact remains that he will have only played one college game before he faces tOSU. And the game he will play will be more like a scrimmage than it is a game - North Texas. Not a good senario for the folks down in Austin.

I fully expect to see the TE lined up most of the game on his side to bring added protection. Otherwise it's going to be tough sledding for this Frosh.
Look for Coach Heacock to exploit this whenever possible.

What sort of stunts or plays do you see him calling to exploit this guy?

Since the 2002-03 Fiesta Bowl:
Looking at that list makes me  at all the mistakes these young adults are making... true, some of them were minor and some have learned from their mistakes (those guys get a big :biggrin2:). But in the same breath I realize the media is all about getting the scoop no matter what school these guys are playing for... just read ESPiN or CNNSI's football news headlines and most of them will be full of players getting suspended, kicked off teams, etc. Now, I'm not necessarially saying some media outlets don't "have it in" for OSU but most are reporting everything hoping to break the next big scandal or MoC story.

On the other side of the coin any good most of the players are doing goes unnoticed outside of local media. The only time ESPiN or SI runs these kinds of stories is when they can sensationalize them or they are about the true media darlings, ND.
