Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Just curious..........

As a different way of looking at good performances, what is better? 350 total yards as a QB against tOSU (in the Shoe, at night... )

Or 513 total yards against Fresno State, of which about 150(?) were kick returns on numerous attempts because the USC D gave up 40 points.

Y'all already know my answer. And yes I'm biased.

:paranoid:

Dennis Dodd's Take on this years Heisman race. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/9595089

7. Heisman Watch

Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: Odds: 1 1/2-1. If the Irish win at least 10, book it.
Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State: 2-1 This year's Vince Young.
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville: 5-1: He's got the talent, does he have the publicity machine?
Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma: 6-1 Defenses sure to collapse on him. He slips from second after The Great Expulsion.
Dwayne Jarrett, USC, WR: 7-1. The $5,300 Man.
Jamaal Charles, Texas, RB: 8-1. Fastest player in the game is the dark horse.
Jeff Samardzija, WR, Notre Dame: 12-1. Will split votes with Quinn.
Michael Bush, RB, Louisville: 15-1. Does everything well.
Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech: 20-1. Jackets won't win enough for him to be a factor.

Okay. They'll play 13 games minimum. 10-3 isn't all that impressive, especially for a team lead by a sure thing Heisman trophy winner. But 10-2 will guarantee them another trip to a BCS bowl. Blah. Nevermind, the media will cream themselves over a double digit win Irish team and a 3000+ yard passer. So I guess he's right.

It's good to see the Horns are as disgusted over the Irish love-fest as everyone in Buckeye Nation. Seeing the media darlings get beat in the Fiesta and Rose Bowls last year was certainly satisfying.

It won't be 10-3, it'd be 10-2 since the Heisman is awarded before the bowl games. Of course, those two losses would probably come to one of either Michigan or Michigan State, and the other to USC, so Notre Dame would have 10 wins despite possibly not beating a single team with a record better than 7-5 (again).

Anyone who uses Dennis Dodd to backup his argument has already lost. Jamaal Charles is the "fastest player in the game"? The fastest player in the game isn't even listed...

Let me throw this on the wall and see if it sticks.

It is much easier for a quarterback to have over 500 all purpose yards than a running back who returns kicks. Vince touched the ball on every offensive play. Even most of there handoffs included the option of him running the ball. Reggie Bush got half the touches as VY (and had another 1,000 yard back on the team) and still put up over 500 yards in a game. Not to mention that a good day at the office for a running back is 125 yards rushing while for a quarterback is 300 yards passing.
i would only counter that Reggie's all purpose total was greatly inflated by the fact that he returned six kickoffs against Fresno, which were in no small part caused because he also had three fumbles in that game...

oh well, it's all water under the bridge anyway...

While Jamaal Charles may run the 100 faster than Teddy Ginn, he is not faster in pads than Ted Ginn.

Charles highlights:

Charles certainly has elite speed, but it isn't quite what Ted Ginn has. And good highlight video lv.
