Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I think this is true. My old high school recently dropped below the 5A limit but remained a 5A. Probably not a good idea, if we'd switch we'd quit losing to Westlake.

Katy has been below for quite some time and still continues to compete well in 5A... only real downside is that they are almost assured to play in the D2 bracket every year, which doesn't mean much but doesn't sound as nice as the D1

I can't stand Bob Stoops- I think he's an arrogant pompous ass, but I respect the hell out of him. Because of stuff like this. Granted, he really doesn't have a choice, but it sounds like he didn't hesitate at all to make a decision.

The Big 12 is WIDE open now. Tech, Nebraska, or hell, even TAMU have a shot now. UT has to be the favorite now though.

By the way, this probably deserves its own thread.

How do they know Freeman has the kind of football abaility as Hawk. I hope that it is true but the fact is we hav an entire LB core that has not proved they can do anything yet. Do they have the measurables, the speed, etc sure, but there is no evidence they are good players yet. The only LB with good expeirence is James. L and he was not the most productive given his 2 starts. That is not saying he will not be good or anything, but it is hard to replace 9 starters on any unit.
i think that you can look at it this way: before Freeman got hurt last year, the coaches had Carp playing with his hand down... because they were going to utilize a lot more 3-4 looks... because they couldn't keep Freeman off the field.

this isn't conjecture on the part of the pundits. this is coming straight from the coaching staff.

and you're wrong about Laurinitis beiong the only LB with game experience. Kerr was the Big Ten defensive freshman of the year. and D'Andrea has played A LOT.

I find this interesting. I don't believe Ohio's highschools have to be that big to be in Division 1. I can tell you mine was D1 and was not that big. Those are some big schools.
Ohio attempts to balance their divisions by number of schools, not enrollment. Here's the breakdown for this year:

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="95%"><tbody><tr><td colspan="3" bgcolor="#004000" width="100%">
<small>Football</small>
</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%"><small>Division</small></td> <td width="44%"><small>Enrollment</small></td> <td align="center" width="23%"><small>Schools</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="21" width="14%"><small> I</small></td> <td height="21" width="20%"><small>529 or more</small></td> <td align="center" height="21" width="17%"><small>116</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="20" width="14%"><small> II</small></td> <td height="21" width="20%"><small>363 to 528</small></td> <td align="center" height="21" width="17%"><small>119</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="21" width="14%"><small> III</small></td> <td height="21" width="20%"><small>261 to 362</small></td> <td align="center" height="21" width="17%"><small>118</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="21" width="14%"><small> IV</small></td> <td height="21" width="20%"><small>188 to 260</small></td> <td align="center" height="21" width="17%"><small>120</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="21" width="14%"><small> V</small></td> <td height="21" width="20%"><small>131 to 187</small></td> <td align="center" height="21" width="17%"><small>119</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="21" width="13%"><small> VI</small></td> <td height="21" width="20%"><small>130 or less</small></td> <td align="center" height="21" width="17%"><small>124</small></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="33%">

I love the way Texas classifies their high schools. What I think is stupid is how the districts within each classification are rearranged every two years. I can understand why this is necessary, but when I was a freshman, we were in district 8AAA which included a couple Waco schools and schools that extended up to an hour north of Waco, whereas in 10th-12th grade we were in 17AAA which consisted of only Waco schools. Any insight from my Texas friends on why the UIL does the district shuffling every two years?

What I hate about how Ohio arranges their conferences is how they include private schools in with the public. I just don't understand that one.

Also, do any of my fellow Texans have any info on good message boards or websites to follow high school football in Texas? I have been looking for one but haven't been able to find a good one. I would really like to be able to follow my alma mater this year but have had to rely on the Waco Trib in the past, which doesn't provide me adequate coverage. Thank you in advance.
