Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I'm new to the site but I am a rabid Buckeye fan and Native Buckeye living in Stinking Ann Arbor Michigan! (off topic)

We have to take Texas this year or the whole season will be a let down...until the Michigan game of course.....which I had the pleasure of being in attendance for last years!

O.....H! I........O!

He's 6'5 - I dont think they would afford him an extra 20 lbs just for the heck of it. Its what the coaches have said, as well as himself. Think maybe 230 or so, thats possible, but he's well above 220. He's a very compact, well-built kid.

Actually, if anything, Snead has the best chance to move up. He had better numbers in the spring game and looked more poised and confident. He also led two touchdown drives whereas McCoy had none.

Biggest news out of spring is that Texas has two new playmakers on offense that should will make the offense skill talent even scarier than it already was. TE Finley and WR Shipley are both stars in the making.

I think the key to the game will be how much the Ohio State offense and the Texas defense improve over last year. Both are experienced and loaded. This really is like last year's game in reverse. You have the mobile QB coming off the big BCS win. We have the salty defense that should be among the best in the country. We even have the rotation at QB that you guys had. Obviously that part scares me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Snead had the benefit of playing agains the second team defense. I also would base things on numbers in the spring game.

I too was impressed with Shipley and Finley, but the question is going to be getting them the ball. I am sure there werent many disguised coverages, blitzes and didnt seem to be a whole lot of pressure on the qb from what I seen. That is why you can't base things on the spring game.

As for the last part I hope that everything goes in reverse of last year.

It does make me a little sick to think how good the offense would be with the new stars and Vince back as well, bust c'est la vie. Funny thing is I remember how I touted Shipley a year ago on this board. I told all the Buckeyes to look out for Shipley and the rest of the imporved WR corps. Then he got injured three weeks before the game. Hopefully history will not repeat itself.

One issue not talked about much right now is how the breakout WR from last year - Billy Pittman, who had a huge game against tOSU - got injured in the Rose Bowl and is still recovering. He was the surprise that took the sting out of Shipley's being out last year.

My preference for Snead right now is just a gut feeling as much as anything. He just looks more confident to me leading the offense.

Would you Texas fans agree that McCoy is leading the race right now,a nd I think he has a fairly comfortable margin??

While Snead is the only one of the two who may have NFL potential, I think Colt is way ahead at this point. There is a big difference between going against our first team D or second team. Also consider that around half Snead's completions came against a walk-on corner (24).

That said it is only a matter of time that Snead passes him.

I agree with you and that makes me scared. I could see mccoy earning the starting spot this year and doing a very solid job. Then with a year under his belt sneed forces mack to open it back up next spring and we do the simms/applewhite deal all over again. hopefully one of these guys will make it a no-brainer at some point

Didn't snead face the first team D on the last drive, and throw a pick?

I really think it's only fair to follow the QB trends from last year for the visiting & home teams

I was very impressed with the level of talent on display in Texas spring game. Texas will win a ton of games on pure talent alone!
I don't see OU beating them. I think there is a big talent gap between them and the Big 12.
I also saw new QBs throwing interceptions.
Our only edge is the guy under center! Our only edge!
Isn't that how it was last year, except reversed!
Gonna be another classic! Down to the wire, game.
