Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I saw all these ppg and scoring statistics being trotted out and I decided to check out my intuitive notion that OSU tends to give up the first drive and then clamp down. So, I checked out the scoring by quarter and found some interesting trends.

Seems there was some trouble holding down the fort in the 4th during Dantonio's last year (2003).

Snyder (2004) looks like he was a good game-planner when he had time (1st and 3rd quarters) but didn't react well to new wrinkles an offense threw at him during a game (2nd and 4th quarters).

Heacock (2005) obviously benefitted from a veteran defense, but seems to do a particularly good job of adjusting to the offense in the 2nd and 4th quarters. I'd like to see better numbers coming out of half-time though.

This is a good observation on your behalf, but I think you have to take into consideration the amount of points we give up in scrub time with our 2nd and 3rd team defenders.

I find this post relevant to the tOSU/UT conversation because I could see us feeling UT out for the first quarter and a half like we did last year before we really set the boys free and scheme in any heavy blitzing. Regardless, I LOVE the way Heacock adjusts. It will be interesting to see whether he wants to jump on the frosh QBs early or check out their style of offense first and then make his moves.

I think our runningback rating is too low. Why is everyone discounting what Antonio Pittman did last year? Every preview basically breezes over his stats and talks about Chris Wells. It's getting on my nerves that people think guys like Darius Walker and Lorenzo Booker are better than him. :mad2:
Let me use a phrase I learned from JWins....I agree :p
Hopefully it's getting on Antonio's nerves as well.

Why do you care? I certainly don't care if Pittman isn't getting the respect he probably deserves. Let the opposing defensive coordinators worry about trying to stop Smith, by putting 6+ guys back in pass coverage, plus a spy or two to keep him contained. Pittman will quickly show them that he can burn defenses. In fact, I hope that DCs play the Bucks this way.

Zurp, your father smells of elderberries.

I'm not sure what elderberries are. Must be some kind of crapples that "y'all" have down there in the south. They must smell like week-old puke that's been roasting in the sun, because that's pretty close to what my father smells like.

Oh, and Troy Smith sucks.

You think TS sucks? Why don't you take a good, hard look at who's been "taking care" of that steer "y'all" call a mascot. Ever notice you don't see XRayRandy and your beloved bovine in the same room at the same time?

This thread is getting slow.

Someone say something ridiculous/ignorant/hateful, and then we can all get in a tissy this afternoon and make the day go by faster.

I'll start. Zurp, your father smells of elderberries. Oh, and Troy Smith sucks.

EH, You have too much credibility on this forum, while I on the other hand... Allow me to get things going. Troy Smith dosent suck, but he damn sure has proved one thing, He's just an average QB while playing against bad defenses, and other than Texas, that is all he competed against last year, Rhett Bomar could have put up better numbers against those same teams. The majority of UT fans are MUCH more worried about the games at TT and NU than they are tOSU.

There is absolutely no way I can come up with a come back for that. Well done, sir.

Mascot smack, eh? Coming from a fan of a school who has a chocolate-covered enema as a mascot. Brilliant.

Oh, and that's awfully kind of you, UTMNC. But I'm up for it today. After all, it is Friday.

let's hope that you left off a a winking face on accident on this one. I for one am not that scared of NU, or TT right now, but really worried about the Ohio St. game. NU is getting way too much pub right now. TT will be the same team this year as they were for the past several years, and I think UT has done pretty well against them lately.

Bomar's line sucks against any defense.

Giving up that easily, eh? Oh well. You still got this thread rolling pretty good, though.

You think THAT's brilliant? When God was handing out mascots, he said, "Who wants the one that looks like a woman's reproductive system?" And the Texas fans volunteered, because they knew that was the closest they'd get to sex with a human female.
