Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

You mean the same Jamaal Charles whose ass was stuffed to the tune of 26 yards on 10 carries in The Shoe (with 12 of those yard coming on one carry, meaning he went 9 carries for 14 yards the rest of the night)? Right.
Here it is; everything he did that night, aside from his tackle. Highly disingenuous to take out his 12 yard run. If any play of the night represents a statistical abnormality, it's his -11 yard fumble recovery in which he wasn't advancing the ball and was only partially his fault (poor timing from RT, bad play call by GD, good play by Whitner). The play was busted, and he should have kept it for no-gain at worst.

Anyways, you're right - accounting for 95 yards of offense and converting 6 first downs was pretty marginal. :roll2:

My brain can't let me get past this first sentence. What exactly is a 'consensus' that only a 'few' people hold?

That would have to be a conspiracy, behind closed doors, in a smoke-filled room, with no-one else looking.

Back on topic - Personally, I have no problem declaring that Texas may present the strongest defensive challenge to a very good OSU offense in all the games we play next year.

It merely reinforces my belief that, turn-about being fair play, the Buckeyes play the role of spoiler in Austin - much as Texas did last year, against a very good returning Buckeye Defense, in Columbus.

If the loss of Vince young (1person) and the maturing of Troy Smith (1person) is going to completley change the outcome of the game, then by all means explain to me how the loss of 9 (NINE) starters on defense gives you so much confidence, and don't give that B.S about replacements having some experience. Texas will have 8 (eight) starters on defense, so you know what,,, Troy Smith dang well better be improved, or he's going to be running backwards all day.

P.S. The tight end position, that you pass off so easy, cost you the game last year, and Texas is LOADED at TE. >>>>>Remember this name Jermichal Finley.

P.S. Don't even bring team speed to the table against Texas, we are a fr--king olympic track team.

P.s I didn't even mention kicking game,,,, If you rush our punter, you better be sure and get him,,, he's the second fastest guy on our team.

How many times do you have to ask this question???

The most important single position on the football feild is QUARTERBACK.

I will say it again. If Vince Young were unable to go for Ohio State, Oklahoma State and USC Texas loses all three of those games.

There is a monumental difference between a quarterack with 0 pass attempts in ANY college football games and guys with starting experience on the defense.

You keep hanging your hat on the "only 2 returning starters" but that is not exactly accurate.

Jay Richardson is a 5th year senior and has mulitple starts throughout his career.

Malcomb Jenkins STARTED 6 games at corner for Tyler Everett when Tyler got injured. Jenkins finished last season 7th in tackles.

John Kerr was a phenom at IU where he led his team in tackles before transfering to OSU. John is also a 5th year senior

A look at the defensive depth charts shows the following.

DE Lawrence Wilson, Sophmore played as the season progressed and had a fine Fiesta bowl coming out party. Played in 10 games in 2005

DT Quinn Pitcock Senior. Nuf said... almost certain all conference possible all american
DT Dave Patterson Senior. Played DE out of position moved back inside. Almost certain all conference.

DE Jay Richardsonn 5th year senior played in all 12 games last season

OLB James Laurinaitis Sophmore Started 2 games. Michigan and ND played in all 12 games.

MLB John Kerr 5th year senior played in all 12 games.

OLB Marcus Freeman Sophmore was injured last season.... physical freak always around the ball.

DB Malcomb Jenkins Sophmore 6'1 202 (4.43 per rivals) Started 6 games played in all 12

Safty Jamario O'Neil 6'1 190 (4.4 per rivals)Played in 11 games

Safty Nick Patterson 6'2 200 (4.5 per rivals) Played in all 12 games.

Corner Kurt Coleman 5' 11 195 (4.4 per rivals) Freshman who enrolled early and has shined. This spot is still up in the air between 3 guys. Andrew Amos 6 1 180 (4.45 per rivals) Shut down Mario Manningham in the Ohio All Star HS game. R Freshman.

Starting experince is just that. Richardson, Jenkins and Kerr ALL have started. If you dont like that, thats your problem but it doesnt change the truth of that.

No where as ANYONE said OSU's defense was as good or going to be as good as Texas. What every buckeye fan IS saying is that you are seeing only what you want to see.

Name 1 time that Jim Tressel has ever feilded a team that wasnt at least top 20 in scoring defense in the 5 seasons he has been at Ohio State..... YOU CANT.

This season will be no different.

You had best hope that your Oline can give your quarterbacks to be totally comfortable because if the OSU defense can get to them, Texas will be in big, big trouble.

Watch at the :55 second mark and pay close attention to the announcers. If you still believe it was completely a drop by Hamby, then that's fine. I just don't know how by providing facts, data, and video to try and uphold my argument; I can get labeled as "getting bent out of shape" and a "bandwagon fan." If other Buckeye fans feel this way, please let me know.:)

You have got to be kidding me. What you are seeing in that is the 3rd touch by hamby. Zwick hit him between the number in the hands and he bobbled it twice before he got hit. Man if your going to make that call show the WHOLE PLAY

The act of dropping a pass involves that the ball actually falling in descent toward the ground. You don't drop a ball by throwing it in the air. I agree he did bobble it, but that clip shows the actual "dropping" of the ball. I didn't feel the need to show him bobbling the pass, as it wasn't mundane to my argument. That and the fact that I wasn't able to find a clip of the whole play.:) I honestly don't really care whether Hamby dropped the ball, I only wanted to get some acknowledgement on the part of Griffin. Had he not been there, I believe Hamby would have caught the ball. I hope this is the last I hear on about the dropped ball, as I'm sorry for ever bringing it up.

Did inVINCEable even watch the UT game last year, or just catch the sportscenter highlights and catch up to the bandwagon? It is hilarious that you are attempting to pimp UT's D for giving up an easy TD, but then getting there late to break up the pass after hamby bobbled it not once but twice.

for the love, can we please stop discussing the hamby play?

Sorry, but I just have to ding your ass for being stupid...

You've got the right to ding anyone you want, but what about his statement is so stupid(other than using the word mundane when he means relevant or pertinent?) Hamby didn't drop the ball till Ced Griffen dislodged him from it. Till that point he was bobbling it. Yes it should have been a TD far before ced got there but a bobble not a drop prevented that. The difference may be slight between the two but they are distinctly different.

b/c he's acting like the defense made a great play... running over that late and being lucky Hamby hadn't already spiked the ball in celebration is not something I'd be proud of as a UT fan.

While thats true, it was not a great play, it is a great example of playing till the whistle blows. Many would have given up on that play long before hamby tossed the ball 20 feet in the air.

Ok...that's cool.

I might just have a difference in my mind between a player bobbling a pass and actually dropping it, whereas you might see it differently. I guess it's just purely semantics and the way you interpret it. Call me a bandwagon fan, but what do you exactly prove out of it? I mean, what do you seriously gain by trying to insult me? I thought everyone on this board was an adultlike enough to not resort to insults. I feel I have provided more than my fair share of facts on this board in order to attempt to prove my argument.

It seems to me that "proving" or "winning" an arguement about a game that has yet to take place is frankly impossible...What do you expect, everyone to say-- "You're right...Let's go home". The fact is that everyone will give their opinion about this game, and in three months we'll find out who was lucky enough to guess correctly about what factors played the biggest roles in determining the outcome...Hell, I take that back, I bet even after the game people will disagree what the major factors were. That's just the way it is...We love having opposing teams represented here, but trying to "prove" arguements is going to be a frustrating endeavor...Just have fun and realize that changing people's minds shouldn't be the goal of your posts...JMHO

Ohhh, and welcome to the site...
