Game thread: USC 34, Notre Dame 31 (Final)

Huh? Nice typo :)

Leinart dove for the endzone, got high/lowed and fumbled the ball directly out of bounds stopping the clock. Just like a punt, its where the ball goes out not where it ends up.

21, I think the ball went a little backwards as it went out of bounds. So like a runner being shoved backwards out of bounds, the clock should continue running. The ball should have been marked at it's forward point where contact was made, on the 2-foot line, and the clock should have kept running.

ya know i dont mind usc in itself but pete carroll is getting really overconfident and cocky and i cant stand teams that are ridiculously lucky EVERY GAME. i mean god damn at least in 02 we made the great plays to win instead of miraculous miracles that usc gets. go figure that when leinart gets tackled that the ball flies out and they get yet another chance at the 6 inch line to score.:roll2:

Assuming we both win out (not an easy task), a Notre Dame - Ohio State bowl game seems like a distinct possibility. I bet bowl committees would be on that like white on rice. Talk about raking in the dough on viewer ratings.

Possible, but I thought it was out immediately since he was on the pylon and it was knocked out of his outside arm...

I wanted the clock to run out and have Carroll bitching, but since he had opted for no replay on the game, he would have had no recourse.

That was my twisted dream. :tongue2:

Bottom line for the Domer's -- they took their most feared opponent to the wire.

An opponent that in prior years took them to the woodshed - regardless of the location.
ND has a legitimate gripe with the officials, for the 1st time in god knows how long in this game.

But, more importantly, they served notice on PC and his Californi-A crowd that they are no longer going to be pushovers, that each game from here on in in will be hard fought, a turf war.

That it is diffferent to play against a squad led by the Fat Man.

And, sitting here on the sidelines, hoping that someone will find a way to overturn USC's seemingly unstoppable Offense -- I could not be happier.

watch out for years (this one +1) in the future, ND will have the coaching and the talent to make life very interesting for any opponent.

I PM'd Chief after the game predicted a NC or at least playing for one in the next 4 years. He is recruiting well...very well and that was my only reservation about him.

Even Rick Minter is doing a great job over there...but I seriously doubt CW is letting him run that show on his own.

I Tivo'd it to make sure, but on the play where Lienert fumbled the ball, if you watch, there was an SC coach down on the sidelines inside the 5. He was clearly outside of the 25, which is as far as they are allowed to go. That's a penalty! Oh, but wait there's more! If you watch that same coach calls for a timeout. SC had no timeout's left. That is not only a penalty, but a time run off. There was only 7 seconds put back on the clock, so obviously there should have been no time left had the penalty and run off been done as they should have been. People think the Angels got screwed, well not nearly as badly as ND just did!!!

i don't think a coach calling a timeout in football when there isn't any left is against the rules, your thinking about basketball, in football i think the ref just ignores the coach, plus even if they had any left he would have been ignored because only the head coach can call the timeout
