Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 34, Miami of Ohio 14 (final)

although we dont have a proven back, we have 3 very capable ones, all of which would be worthy of starting. if you hold our running backs in check, then texas will kill us. how can i say that? if we cant run against miami-oh we dont stand a chance against texas.

i honestly think we'll come out and end up averaging at least 4.5 yards a carry.

given that osu has no proven rb, i'm optimistic we can hold them in check...sounds like another david underwood to me and he and meatchicken ran for 115 yards against us last year on something like 40+ attempts.

four senior starters with size and experience. plus, roethlisberger never lined up at ol.

Actually, Pittman has proved to be quite productive when he was in there (5.3 ypc). He just didn't get more carries because of playing behind two seniors, minor injuries, and some discipline problems...the talent is there. Haw has yet to play a down yet, but at 210 with sub-4.3 speed, I think he can handle your suspect DL. Not to mention Wells, who was one of the very best RBs in all of high school last year, playing at one of the top programs in Florida. David Underwood's lack of production against you last year was due more to his being overrated (thus Mike Hart taking over) than your defense.

And I know Rothleisbeger was never an OL...the point is you don't have an all-world QB making your OL look good.

My expectations for this game is typical Tressel ball, done well. I think the buckeyes rack up between 200 and 250 rushing yards and pick up 150 in the air. Tressel will run the hell out of the ball to scare Texas and throw off their projections of a pass happy team.At the very least what ever you see against miami of ohio will be completely different against Texas (Unless were able to run very easily on both, which I doubt).

you're not listening, but that's probably because you've had enough at mht. as an osu student/alum, you wouldn't dream of rooting for (insert any school here) to beat ohio state. that's all we're shocked about (how could someone do this), and that's kind of the point.
no, you aren't listening. I didn't attend OSU. I live in PA and attended a shitty PA school. Had I attended PSU instead, I would still root for OSU. Why change who you are a diehard fan of? I grew up with OSU. I think its just a little brother complex.

i would say the same thing if you told me you attended Miami but wanted to root for bowling green against us. again, it's a small fan base so we can't afford to lose anyone.

I understand....but it's stupid to get pissed off at people for not rooting for their alma mater when they were fans of another school long before going there.

10. Just because you barely made it through high school in Dayton, you are not entitled to attend college.

Funny, I just read this on Friday about the newest US News rankings:

Miami University ranked 66th, while Ohio State University increased in the rankings from No. 62 to No. 60.

Ohio State's ranking comes on the heels of being named one of the top 10 public research universities in the country by the National Science Foundation.

OSU is once againt the top public university in Ohio.

As a Miami student i will always be a Buckeye first....and a Redhawk...closer to 13th....besides it's definitely a nation championship contention team this year....you dont root for Miami in that situation. Oh and Josh Betts blows.

Good to see. I was at Miami this weekend and I think I saw as many people wearing Ohio State apparel as there were wearing Miami.

In theory, we should win this game fairly easily. However, Miami is a worthy challenger and the Buckeyes need to be aware of that. Fortunately I believe that they will, I'm thinking close for half and pull away for nice victory somewhere in the second. Go Bucks!

That's what I think is so funny about the guys at MHT and their "Did you marry the first girl you kissed?" comments. In my four plus years as an undergrad and two plus as a grad student at Miami, there were diehard Buckeye fans than Redhawks.

Despite being elite academic types, they don't seem to grasp the concept that you go to school for a career. I'm a diehard buckeye fan. If I went to Miami, I'd root for them when it didn't interfere with OSU. But going to the school doesn't require you to swear allegiance to them.

You pick a school to prepare you for a career. You don't pick it for the athletic program (unless you aren't being picky, then I understand that logic). You may develop an affinity towards your alma mater, but why does that mean you must cut ties with your commitment to your favorite team?

If I become a foreign citizen, and live in Brazil (with no plans to return)... I will probably learn to love Brazil teams. But that doesn't mean I have to stop loving USA athletics.

You can root for another team, but still maintain your favorite when the chips are down. I root for MSU, especially in BB, b/c I was raised in a spartan house and I really respect Izzo as a coach and a person. But come the 22nd of feb (IIRC), my dad will have brought one very hostile fan into the breslin.

I'll always be a Buckeye fan, but if they ever play my Alma Matter (Case Western), I'll root for the Spartans. I'll have a sign in the stands that says "GO CASE NERDS!!!"

Just kidding. I'd probably root for Ohio State to break 300 points.

I agree with you, JW, that you don't pick the school for the athletics (unless you are an athlete), but I would never have picked to go to Michigan. I would highly doubt that I would even pick to go to any school in Michigan.
