Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 34, Miami of Ohio 14 (final)

yeah, i expect it from the marshalls of the world.....but I've never had any problems with Miami(OH) fans (never really encountered any). The only time I've ever seen other posters talk about them is with respect and they are usually being rooted for. over there, we are Columbus State/Ohio A&M/Aggies/Cow School.....

There seems to be a pretty solid rumor swirling around on the Miami boards that one of their RBs, Austin Sykes, "took summer school to raise his GPA to eligible status, but didn't quite get where he needed to be." One guy is over their claiming this is more than just a rumor but for now that's all I can fairly call it. If this turns out to be true that could really hurt them because he seemed to be the only physical back they had though not necessarily their #1 guy(they were looking to run by committee anyways). The Redhawks are left with a corp of or RB's with questionable durability and no power. There is no way they can come into Columbus and win if they play a one-dimensional game and it looks like they might not have any other choice.

I know several people that graduated from there. People that graduated from that school seem to think that they graduated from Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Cornell/etc... . Not even close. As far as the first game is concerned. OSU is going annihilate them.

RE: Austin Sykes: An article posted by the official Miami sports website (muredhawks.com) about the first scrimmage held yesterday mentioned Sykes

Among those battling to share the load at running back are redshirt freshman Jimmy Calhoun, sophomores Austin Sykes and Cory Jones and true freshman Andre Bratton, who has adjusted quickly.
Probably a bigger story to watch is the Miami defensive line. Projected (and past) DE/DT starter Jarrod Rich's season is over before it got started because of a back injury. Also rumored to be gone for the season is projected DE Tranaine Sills. Also from the same 8/16 article:

One of the areas that has experienced the most movement is the defensive line, which is replacing three starters from last season. The starting front four has been relatively stable and returns good experience in the forms of senior all-MAC defensive end Marcus Johnson, senior defensive tackles John Glavin and Mike Barz and sophomore end Craig Mester<!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE -->, who is coming off a strong campaign in 2004.

<!-- STORY AD ENDS HERE --> Depth has been a serious concentration up front, however, where the Red and White has moved redshirt freshman James Case from defensive end to defensive tackle and fellow freshman Joe Coniglio from linebacker to defensive end to stay at full strength. Also competing at tackle are sophomore Otto Linwood and freshman Steve Sutter, while freshman Ben Huddle is in the mix at defensive end.
Miami's annual Red/White Scrimmage is slated for this Saturday.

After my comment about them being pathetic shits, I decided to venture over there. I need to reclassify my statement........a couple of them are pathetic shits. There are some good posters over there. The one who sticks out in my mind is DevilGrad. If you guys want to go over there and NOT cause trouble (:p ) i recommend talking to him.

First of all, why the heck are you using a texas-osu image to sell miami tickets?

And second, you could have asked before you started profiting off of the image I made...

=>TOP 10 REASONS TO HATE tOSU A&M (not all are my original thoughts):

10. Just because you barely made it through high school in Dayton, you are not entitled to attend college.

9. Their coach looks like a dork in that sweater vest.

8. What in the heck are those stickers they put on their helmets? If I scratched the helmet stickers and sniffed, I would probally smell greed.

7. The "Horseshoe" -- what kinda nickname is that for a stadium? Sounds like a Lucky Charms commercial.

6. Dance is not an 8-credit class.

5. Columbus is a big prison. Christopher Columbus didn't land in Columbus, Ohio and if he had he probably would have jumped back on the boat and gone to Cuba.

4. Scarlet and Gray ... not much better than Pink and Green. Scarlet was a selfish character in the ultimate chick flick and a poor choice for a color. It is red, call it what you want but the fact remains that it is red ... much like Maize is yellow. Grey, gray or however they want to spell it in Columbus ... get an education and make up your simple little minds.

3. They call them "Ohio A&M Aggies", we call them "Nuts!" In fact, the school's mascot is a guy with a nut on his head.

2. "Dotting the Eye" -- that's something my dog does in the back yard. Some moron waits their whole life to say they dotted the "I", On a related note, their fans actually cheer for a tuba player.

1. And finally, the No. 1 reason I hate OSU ... they are in Miami's way this year.

The favorite line at MHT...Did you marry the first girl you kissed? No dickwad, it's called being loyal to the team you grew up with and sticking with them, through thick and then. I didn't go to Miami because of their athletic program. I went there to get my education.

I've never seen a group of fans with such an inferiority complex about their university's academic and athletics program. I wish I had never found that site because as a fan and alum of the school, it's pretty embarassing.

right or wrong, i think it's the folks like you who enrage the masses at mht. you attended miami, yet will root for another team that plays them. that it happens to be osu is simply part of a larger problem to hard core miami fans. frankly, in reading posts over there, you all have done a bit to incite the responses. remember, there are literally thousands (more?) of hard core buckeye fans that are spread throughout the country (whether they actually attended the university or not) and spread over the web. the miami fan base is very small consisting basically of several hundred alums - most of whom like myself religiously follow miami sports and post at mht. mht is kind of the lions den - reserved pretty exclusively for hard core miami fans/alums so consider that when you think about the responses you get. those fans (again, myself included) are probably not big osu fans (even if most of us are probably from ohio, myself included).

now, the bigger issue is the game. i think this will be a close game for several reasons:

1. tressel's games always seem to be close - and he will hope to not have to show texas everything
2. i think this miami team is better than last year's, and certainly better than the team we took to ann arbor last year in betts' first "real" start
3. our d-line scares me - no depth and not much experience other than marcus johnson who is a very nice rush de
4. our o-line will make the difference in this game. it's full of experienced veteran players with good size (4 senior starters) but can they be physical enough with osu's d-line to open holes for the running game? brandon murphy is a speed back (which we haven't had in some time), but will he hold up after meeting mssrs. hawk, carpenter and schlegel in the holes? there's not much doubt that if miami can run the ball, i think this will be a game.
5. if given time, zwick will find open receivers because you just can't cover osu's trio of guys for more than a few seconds. i expect multiple looks and blitzes from the redhawks to try and find a way to get to zwick. however, i do not believe (until i see it) that osu will be able to establish much of a running threat which may allow us to drop more into coverage.

two weeks until the game. this is outstanding!

miami fans need to get over it. people have different reasons for rooting for their teams. to some people, undergrad diplomas aren't one of them. I may not marry the first girl I kiss, but I don't keep my first car either.

About the game, I don't know anything about the Miami team. I don't expect to lose, and I hope it's not close (Marshall).

1&2. This game will be no closer than the 43-10 ass-pasting you took at Ann Arbor.
3&5. If your d-line scares you (as in you don't think they'll be good), then why do you think that we won't "establish much of a running threat"? If your d-line is as suspect as you fear, it's going to be a loooooong day for Miami fans.
4. We pushed around one of the best OLs in college football during The Game, and also dominated Oklahoma State's OL in the Alamo Bowl, so what makes you think we can't do the same against your OL? You don't have Rothliesberger anymore...

you're not listening, but that's probably because you've had enough at mht. as an osu student/alum, you wouldn't dream of rooting for (insert any school here) to beat ohio state. that's all we're shocked about (how could someone do this), and that's kind of the point.

the 43-10 was due in no small part to josh betts' first "real" start. when he realized we were wearing white jerseys, it was too late. he'll be much better this year. if not, then you could be right.

given that osu has no proven rb, i'm optimistic we can hold them in check...sounds like another david underwood to me and he and meatchicken ran for 115 yards against us last year on something like 40+ attempts.

four senior starters with size and experience. plus, roethlisberger never lined up at ol.
